As an avid downhill mountain biker/snowboarder, it would be cool if Strava worked the way Slopes (getslopes.com) does, where chairlift rides don’t count towards a total activity distance.

Thanks to everyone who has added their vote and thoughts on this topic. We don't have an update to share at this time, however, please know that your feedback is constantly being reviewed and we will provide updates as they become available.

A few quick reminders:

1. We encourage you to pause your recording device before utilizing a shuttle or lift, we also have some automations in place to detect efforts that exceed thresholds we’ve set in effort to help maintain segment leaderboards. These automations aren't perfect, but we are working on improving them.

2. E-bike exists as its own Sport Type, so anyone with a motorized Mountain Bike should use that so their efforts don't fall into the wrong segment leaderboards. If you believe someone is using the wrong Sport Type to record their activities, see point 3.

3. Flag an activity, this is a community tool that exists for you to contribute to leaderboard integrity. Check out @Ian 's post on how he utilizes this tool to keep his local leaderboards in tact. Our Support team is also here to help and investigate difficult cases. Here's an article on how to use the activity flag tool, for more information.

Thanks again for your contributions.

@Soren  nobody wants to (or just doesnt) pick up their mobiles from their jersey's backpocket or from a pocket of a bag. usually these MTB Downhill riders starting from home or from a parking lot, and go up with electric assistance or with bus or ski lift, they are afraid to forget to start or stop after an app's pause so they are running their Strava app or cycling computer continously. so this is why need an AUTOMATIC solution for it, what i wrote as MTB Downhill sport profile would be the best, if somebody records his/her ride with this profile then:

#1: his/her recorded times are automatically are NOT ON THE LEADERBOARDS on FLAT and UPHILL segments (so everything above -0.25%) with this MTB Downhill profile, as an auto-flag by the system

#2 his/her recorded times are ON THE LEADERBOARDS on DOWNHILL segments (so everything below -0.25%) , it could be on normal RIDE segments, and on E-BIKE segments too (nobody will complain on a DH what was the sport device for the ride, a normal DH bike or a E-MTB, these 2 types of bikes are common in the DH community )

The main problem is that usually much much more normal RIDE DH segments on the map, and these DH riders dont want to ride with E-BIKE or E-MTB profile because they went down on the trails without electric assistance mostly (they used the motor or the bus/ski lift only for uphill) so if somebody flagged their activities, they set it back to "trust me it is valid", because the DH part was valid.

With these automatic steps the normal users wont get "UH-OH" messages on their real uphill KOMs, these DH riders wont get rude messages from the normal riders, DO NOT LET to manage it with an app's pause or cycling computer/watch pause, the users will forget to stop or start it and cause much more problems...

Just to add to this. I pause my activities during lifts and shuttles, but Strava for some reason, still includes it in the ride in a way where I can't even explain it how. For sure it could be solvable with an option where you just plainly exclude all uphill time via a tick box.

Another bump for getting this fixed. I'd think it would be a simple copy of the snowboard activity with a rename and have the metrics count to cycling. Pausing and unpausing is not an acceptable solution with subscription prices going up and an activity that already functions as needed (just for snow) already existing.

it must be automatic, from 100 people 99 will forget to tick/untick anything. the solution is simple what i wrote, all uphill and flat segment must be automatically "flagged" in the activity, only the DH segments should remain valid with ranked time results. i dont know what the f does it take so long from Strava side to make a damned MTB Downhill sport profile, apprx 10mins to code it.

With an increase in fees, it would be brilliant if we would get an increase in service, too!

Another suggestion: If you really, really can't (or can't be arsed to) build a downhill feature, you could make it possible to crop parts in the middle of a ride. If it wouldn't automatically count climbed elevation, you could get rid of the lift elements afterwards.

That'd be a bodge I'd be happier with than with the current situation.

@BennoAugustinus great idea! Whatever secret reason Strava has for not doing this, at least they could give us an uphill segment eraser!

My single snowboarding activity makes all other activities elevation gains miserable. Please fix this, it's really annoying.

Until it’s automatic detection, I don’t bother with using Strava at the bike park. If you forget to pause once then there’s no way of removing that elevation gain, and the activity is now inaccurate. It’s too cumbersome.

Its nice to see some discussion on the topic though, I know this has been a highly requested feature for years. Also a great opportunity for Strava. Just did 3 days in Whistler, and the lines were packed with potential Strava users!

Since this is already a feature for skiers, and the majority of bike parks are at ski mountains, I cannot understand how this is not a feature yet for bikers.  Counting all money they are raking in  must be taking away from the time needed for  improving the product

Feature request/RFE: Add descent to mountain biking activities
Reason: Many of the rides we do are partial shuttles, such as 3000' up and 5500' down. Descent would be a nice stat, like you have on snow sports. Aggressive descents are strenuous and worth tracking.

Note that all the Strava mountain bike riders I know would like this feature. We understand why its not important to road bikers.

I would love that feature. It would keep me from having to do all the math myself!

How are we doing another summer without a MTB Bike Park activity in Strava still?!

@praisejahrasta not so good since Strava has continued to disregard our request but maybe we just need to accept that they don't care about gravity riders.

Please add a “Mountain Bike Park” Sport.

According to Strava I climbed 40k ft on vacationing in Big Bear Snow Summit. Silly, the whole time I was on a lift.
