As an avid downhill mountain biker/snowboarder, it would be cool if Strava worked the way Slopes (getslopes.com) does, where chairlift rides don’t count towards a total activity distance.

I use Slopes for downhill skiing.  There must be an app for your sport.  It annoys me that these activity types are even available in Strava as they clearly don’t work.

There is an theoretically an app called "Bike Park Pro"  I downloaded it but only got errors when I tried to register for an account so I could use it. Tried different browsers, different computers, different internet connections, also tried over a 3 month period. There was no support so i went to the parent company and tried to use their support portal, but that was broken too. a direct support email address I eventually found also bounced.

Yep, still waiting for this feature. I had a Whistler day flagged for the first time and a wtf google search led me here.
- I used to pause my GPS on the chairlift at Whistler. Somehow Strava still says 'You got from the bottom to the top somehow, so here's some elevation'. So now I don't bother pausing because that has also wrecked a whole ride in the past. Maybe it's going from Garmin Connect to Strava - I don't know. Get some QA people to figure it out.
- The elevation gain is the only way I know to track DESCENT easily.
- How hard is it to flag chairlifts and gondolas? They're in the same spot every year.
- I don't want all that elevation, but I really do want to know whether I had a 60km day at Whistler, or a 100km day at Whistler - apart from being able to feel the difference physically.

This and the lack of adding a pack weight/rucking are the two reasons why I have not paid for Strava. Unclear why they haven’t added these two features as there are a ton of people who have asked for both on the forums

I am not renewing my subscription due to their lack of responsiveness to fixing this.  Something that other GPS tracking apps have had no problem with for over 10 years

My working theory is that they can't sell this data to municipalities so they see it as spending money without return. Clearly the idea of doing something for the users who supply ALL the data that they sell, is a very alien concept. I do not plan to renew my subscription unless this gets resolved. NEW STRAVA CHALLENGE: Can we get 1000+ people on here to pledge not to renew their subscriptions?

I am also seriously thinking of not renewing, despite getting several medals for the "Lift" at Vail this weekend. It is skewing all my stats and it's too much trouble always stopping and starting my Garmin.

How is this not a thing yet? it would be the easiest feature to implement. I tried the "pausing ride" fix the other day and it still included the elevation difference as metres climbed. So now I'm back to either skewing my elevation data or my rides per year data (recording each one separate). Seriously, this subscription costs $100 a year now....figure it out

Another day in the bike park, another morning spent cropping and splitting my activates to get rid of elevation. Just copy the snowboard activity, have the distance totals count to the ride metric instead of snow sports and rename it to bike park. Why can I snowboard Loon MTN NH and have it show me number of runs and it doesn't count the lift, but when I ride the Loon bike park ON THE SAME LIFT there is no way for strava to do the EXACT same thing.

At least we have local legend participation trophies as a feature.

Come on, how long can we wait for Strava to consider such a fundamental feature?
For me, as road cyclist and downhill biker it breakes the whole point of stats tracking, as I am simply not able to differentiate elevation gain made on bikepark lift from sweaty climb on road. This is really frustrating.

Please please fix this issue. Pausing does not work. It still adds the elevation gain after the fact. I pay for this subscription to track my activities ACCURATELY. I have yearly elevation goals for biking and those are irrelevant if I go to the resort to do some downhill a couple times a year.

Honestly I have the feeling that Strava simply don't care to fix any of their issues, a half baked product that has never changes in the last maybe 5 years

I mean, they did go through the trouble of making a bunch of previously free features part of the premium service... you know instead of creating new features to lure people into the premium service.  I just road park 2 days in a row, besides my stats for the year being screwed, I keep having to explain to people that I am connected with that I didn't really pedal 75+ miles with an obscene amount of climbing. I also placed really well on riding the chair lift up.... so I have that going for me, which I guess is nice 😞

Okay, since Strava does not show any interest in addressing this, here is a workaround to shoehorn your elevation data to a realistic value:

  1. split your activity like this https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/221033867-Activity-Split-Tool
  2. crop the split activities (i have tested it until here)
  3. If you want everything in one activity, use a third party service to merge your activities again https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/221258108-Merge-or-Combine-Activities

It's a true bodge, a pain in the ass to do, but at least it's a solution for an issue some people seem to run into with this app. I do understand that strava employees don't suggest this workaround, because it is a pretty embarrassing hack.
