For each segment effort on an activity, display the elapsed time from activity start time until start time of the segment

Segment “results” currently displays segment length - time to complete - speed - watts.  To aid in planning routes for structured training workouts it would be useful to include the “elapsed time” from start of a ride to when the segment was started.  This would be a good addition to route planning and integration with other training data tracking apps.  For example my structured workout requires a 15 minute warmup and then a 4 minute max interval. Will this route work for this?  Knowing the elapsed time of a segment on a previous ride would greatly assist.

Hello @Dcollins

Thanks for posting about this.  All Strava segments are ranked according to "Total Elapsed Time". We like to think of our segments as a race and in a race the clock keeps running even if you stop.

For your overall activity, we calculate your moving time versus your total elapsed time; this is what will be reflected by your activity's average speed or pace. For segments, we will only compare your total time.

Let us know if you have any questions.

@Jane - I don't think that is what they are asking.  They are looking for the elapsed time from the START OF THE ACTIVITY to when the segment starts.  So, the time from when someone gets on their bike at the trailhead to the time they got to the start of the segment.  Say, they started their ride at 3:00pm but didn't get to the segment until 3:15pm, then the segment took 5 minutes to complete.  They are asking for a notation to show that 15 minutes it took them to get to the segment so they can use that to help plan workouts.

Thanks for the reply. I need to clarify my suggestion.  I’m interested in knowing the elapsed time from the start (point of origin) of a ride to the starting point of a segment.  For example a structured workout requires a 15 minute warmup and then a 4 minute max interval. Will this route work for this?  Knowing the elapsed time from the point of commencement of the ride to the start point of a segment on a previous ride would greatly assist. It could also be shown by the addition of elapsed time way points along a route at the end of a ride i.e after 15 minutes on this route I was at this location during a previous ride.  Thanks for considering.

@Dcollins

Thanks for clarifying that, and thanks @anchskier also.  I understand what is being suggested now.
