The OSM cycle and outdoor layers are a very plus feature to get when you are building a new route, specially when you don't know the place or for very long rides. If you want to take a national/european bike route / official outdoor path for exemple if more simple to follow the information in this OSM layers, heatmap it's ok but not enough. You can also get information about, the type of surface, size of the route, bikeble or not, you can also get information about POI like water points, restaurants, toilets, bike services, etc. Why dont use it?
