After creating a new segment, initially it appears that I am the only person in the ranking.
I suggest there is a message within the UI of the rankings, such as "New Segment Leaderboard. History building in progress. Estimated completion: X hours."
I don't think its possible to estimate that because Strava can't know beforehand how many activities happened on this segment and can't foresay the server load in the next hours or days. A notification as soon as all the segment efforts are complete would be nice though.
