We have KOMs and QOMs, I think it would be rad if there were ROMs (Ruler Of the Mountain) so that non-binary athletes can collect crowns in their authentic gender 🙂

Hi @_Spencer_

Thanks for posting about this.  All Athletes are eligible to compete for the Course Record Crown (CR) on a segment.

The crown signifies the top performer in a given segment. Crowns are awarded to the fastest athlete to date on a segment’s overall leaderboard.

Your current all-time KOM/QOM/CR crowns are stored in a special list on Strava for your reference. Access the list under "KOMs/CRs/Top 10s" or "QOMs/CRs/Top 10s" from your profile page on the web or under “Segments” from your profile page on the mobile app.

With a three dozen or so "non binary genders" how many categories you think is necessary?

Why dont you just pick one and try to that KOM or QOM? I bet if you could get either one you would not complain..

Hi @JbalColgate

Strava has created different leaderboards based on a more diverse gender approach to promote inclusivity and recognize the diversity of individuals in our language and society. Language plays a crucial role in shaping our perceptions and attitudes, and having broader, more gender-neutral options helps to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.

We acknowledge and respect that gender identities are diverse and not strictly binary. This approach allows us to address individuals without making assumptions about their gender, thereby avoiding potential misgendering and exclusion.

Strava is for everyone, and we’re committed to ensuring everyone can experience the joy of movement and community. To learn more about the commitment to respect you make when you join the Strava community, please carefully review our Community Standards

Regarding the participation of transgender women in female sports, it's important to consider both inclusivity and fairness. Ensuring fair competition while promoting inclusivity is a complex issue that varies across different sports due to the physical demands and nature of each sport. In swimming and running, for example, governing bodies often set guidelines that balance these concerns, such as hormone level requirements for transgender athletes.

The aim is to create a level playing field while respecting the identities of all athletes. It's crucial to engage in ongoing dialogue, research, and policy refinement to ensure that the competitive integrity of women's sports is maintained, while also upholding the principles of inclusivity and respect for all individuals.
