From Strava:

Your privacy is important to us, and we’re committed to providing meaningful choices about how the personal information you choose to share on Strava is used.We are continually reviewing the community's feedback and product offerings to look for ways to improve the experience. We have already started to ship some improvements like hiding your activity's start time and a quick-edit screen. We have shared this specific request with our product team making improvements on these features. In the meantime, To hide your device from non-followers, you can adjust your Activity privacy controls to "Followers".

I recently upgraded my bike computer and bought a smart watch. Everyone can immediately check what types they are as they are displayed, taken from the .fit file.

I don't need to show off what gear I have. In many places, it's outright dangerous to share that you have an Apple Ultra or a Garmin Tactic watch, as thugs will follow and rob you for it.

So,  please:

  • Create an option to hide the device name that is taken from the uploaded/synched .fit file
  • And/or an option to automatically rename a device between the .fit file and the Strava displaying of it.

Thanks for considering.

Must be getting paid to advertise your device.   👎🏽

It seems obvious that they would have this feature, I searched for like an hour looking, I even tried to change my setting in my garmin app so it wouldn't send the info but no use.  So I ended up here only to find out it both doesn't exist and other people also want this feature. Would be nice... 🤞

Please add this option soon as is possible! This choice must be standard in app. Thanks.

Totally agree with the privacy concern. Is there an update on this?

Really want this. Kind of ridiculous Strava forces me to let everyone know what gear I use. I don't need people to notice how often I buy something new or upgrade an item. This should be a high priority safety ticket

same as for the gear, we should be able to give the tracking device a Nick Name. this would allow to prodect what was used

Agree with the nickname too.. if not totally removed then give users the option to use a nickname just like how we do it with other gears like shoes.

Make it possible to remove this please. It's kind of wierd that this is by default displayed and not possible to remove. Real weird. Honestly considering stop sharing activities as I see this as an unnecessary forced share. And Strava is kind of useless if not for the "sharing" aspect of it ...

I would like this feature.

Either to hid the device, edit the name, or add a nickname.

Hasn’t the idea’s been kicking around long enough to make a decision yet?

Thanks!

Not sure, but I think the decision will be based on the number of kudos for this - which is why it’s taking so long. Is that how this works? 🤔

Implements an option - which is mandatory under data protection law anyway - to hide the name of the tracking device.

Apart from that, there are countries where you become an involuntary part of a robbery just because perpetrators find out about which training equipment you use on sites like Strava & Co.

The opportunity to protect your belongings should be a given.
