I think adding an option to recalculate the relative effort of the past activities according to current heart rate zones would be very useful.

MOTIVATION: After changing the HR zone setting from default to custom, the Relative Effort chart on Fitness & Freshness page gets messed up because the past activities are not recalculated according to the new setting. Consequently, the overall chart is not useful in comparing the current fitness level with the fitness in the past. Similarly, Relative Efforts before and after the HR zones modification are not comparable.

EXAMPLE: In the past few weeks, I trained more intensely than before, but my Relative Effort chart is constantly in a downhill trend since updating my HR zones a month ago. See the picture below.

IMPLEMENTATION: The recalculation of past activities should be made optional and not happen automatically when HR zones are changed. After all, HR zones need to be adjusted regularly because they naturally change over time. In this case, when HR zones are regularly adjusted to reflect the actual physical change in HR zones, the global recalculation of past activities would not be desirable and the HR zones adjustment should impact only the newly added activities. On the other hand, when HR zone setting is changed initially to match the real HR zones, the recalculation is necessary. Ideally, to make it maximally flexible, the option to recalculate past activities should not be global but rather it would come with another option to specify the timeframe of the activities which should be recalculated on the basis of the current HR zone setting. This would be especially useful for anyone who got new HR zones some time ago, but for any reason did not adjust them in Strava settings immediately after he got them.

I agree 100% with this idea.

Thanks for submitting your idea. It has been reviewed by our moderation team and is now open to voting.

I'd like to point out that our support team does have the ability to recalculate all activities with your current heart rate zones if you submit a support ticket. However, this doesn't account for a specified timeframe as you indicated.

@Soren Unfortunately, this is not what your support says. I submitted the ticket with the request for my activities to be recalculated, and I got the following response: "Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. At this time, we do not currently have this feature on Strava". And after this a long generic instruction of how I can submit the idea here 🤦🏻‍♂️ Very disappointed.

I'm truly sorry to hear about that. I just looked into that for you and it should be corrected now! Apologies on our behalf!

@Soren Thank you very much. I appreciate your help. I'm glad it has got sorted out eventually!

@Soren: I've opened a Strava support ticket (#2680767) to get my "Monthly Fitness" recalculated. Because I see a constant, slow but steady decline in my fitness despite the fact I've almost doubled the time I spent on workouts after deleting false FTP data. Support is reluctant to trigger a recalculation. If a recalc doesn't help, it shouldn't hurt - or did I miss something here?

@Binom Did you notice your steady decline in fitness after modifying your heart rate zones? I think that when you change FTP in "my performance", it gives you the option to assign the date to each change. Consequently, you can make Training Load to be always up-to-date. In my understanding, the problem is only with changing custom heart rate zones, because this modification does not give you an option to insert the date. I might be wrong though, since I am not a cyclist and I do not use FTP.

I noticed a decline and the deleted „Custom Heart Rate Zone“ / FTP trying to fix it. Don‘t know what‘s wrong but would love to have support recalc „Monthly Fitness“. Maye it doesn‘t help, but shouldn‘t hurt either. But support doesn‘t seem to be willing to recalc for whatever reasons.

I have been using Strava for a while but have only recently been able to do Lactate Threshold Heart Rate test and update my HR zones accordingly. I would like to be able to select a range of past activities and have them all re-evaluated against the current HR zones. This should include a re-calculation of the RE figure so that my RE chart is also revised as if the activities had been done with the current HR zones. If selecting a range is too involved then being able to go back to individual past activities, choose "edit" and then having the option to "re-evaluate" would be almost as good.

I can achieve the same effect my deleting past activities and re-uploading but this has two major downsides. Firstly, you need to have the original data and secondly, you loose any social interactions against the activity.

I discovered how to correct elevations today because my Wahoo Elemnt is not very accurate so I went through correcting all the activities recorded with it. While doing this I noticed that on the activities that I corrected the Relative Effort was also recalculated using the latest HR zones.

This might be a work around for some people.

Upvote. Having the option to trigger re-evaluation per activity would be enough to fix some blunders
