Pretty straightforward request: please allow us to set a default Map Type (eg. Surface Type) instead of Standard. I train and explore in mostly rugged terrain, and I would like to convey that with a simple set-it-and-forget-it setting.
Thanks for submitting your idea on enabling a default map type. It has been reviewed by our moderation team and is now open to voting.
Take a look at ActivityFix (activityfix.com). I use it to set the map type for every ride to "gradient", and it happens automatically, without me having to think about it.
We shouldn't have to use a third party tool for something like this. Strava should be more user customizable.
I was looking for this setting for hours but it looks it doesn't exist.
How do I vote for this essential option?

@millardjk Thanks a bunch for the suggestion—ActivityFix is really super powerful. Now I wish Strava would allow setting an activity to public via the API.
Seriously? This isn't a default option and we have to vote on it becoming one? That's silly....
The fact that this is already an option for 3D Maps on trail activities (for subscribers) leads me to believe it shouldn’t be a lot of work to expand this so we could pick a default map type for various activities.
Very good suggestion. At least I can turn off the terrible 3D map off from trail activities.
