New Segment ranking - Champion of champoins (Solo efforts only)

There is no real way to filter out solo rides from group rides.  Just asking Strava to exclude efforts within a certain amount of time of others wouldn’t do it because not everyone is on Strava.  When I race, only about half of the people I am racing with are on Strava, so it is very likely I could be getting a lead out by one or more people who wouldn’t show up in the system.  By trying to filter out those various things you mentioned to try to make the leaderboard more “legit”, you would end up with a small group of people left that really doesn’t represent the actual attempts on the segment accurately.  Yes, you might feel good that you are at or nearer the top of the list, but you would also know that there are an unknown number of others who should be up there ahead of you.

Not to mention KOMs in a group ride or race are completely legit, just like a solo KOM where the rider has waited for a storm to blow them to the top rank. Strava segments aren’t about a level playing field, the only rule is using the correct activity type and no unusal assistence.

Interesting comments guys, this is not about changing the current KOM for all of you that race or use a group ride to bag your place on a board, it’s simply a new ranking or classification similar to the local legend.

The intent was not to solution but as an inclusive forum simply put an idea forward. Whether something is legit is pointless us debating as everyone has their own goal posts it’s simply down to Strava.

I understand that and appreciate that.  It would be a reasonable idea in my mind IF there was a way to actually know if a ride was a solo or group effort.  Unfortunately, there isn’t.  Strava has no way of knowing reliably if an effort was solo or included a group dynamic.  The number of people who are not on Strava along with Strava not being able to accurately determine if riders were together or in a group to start with would make the data totally unreliable.  

​@MischeviousMorph It’s absolutely okay to bring ideas forward, this is what this forum is about. The problem here is we get this exact idea for years again and again so we have our answers ready and maybe sound a bit repelling.
