Plan a Workout After Dark With All-New Night Heatmaps

For days that end before your workout does: Night Heatmaps show where people stick to after dark – so you can plan a route between sunset and sunrise. Because seasons change, but your goals don’t.Available to subscribers, Night Heatmaps aren’t the only new way you can see when – in addition to where – people move. All-new Weekly Heatmaps show where people moved the last 7 days (and where they didn’t). Keeping leaderboards fair - more leaderboard improvements!

Hi everyone! We recently launched an upgraded auto-flagging system designed to catch over a third more “impossible” segment times before they even show up on leaderboards (eg. The “run” that looks suspiciously like a bike ride or the “ride” that was clearly recorded from an e-bike or a car). We’ve also retroactively applied the new system to 34 million existing run and ride leaderboards, removing 6.5M impossible activities that didn’t belong in the top 10.Ensuring fairness and integrity on the leaderboards is a work in progress, and we’ll continue finding and cleaning up suspicious results from the past as our process improves. But these updates are a big step. They won’t just make leaderboards more accurate – they’ll make sure your own hard-earned efforts are properly recognized and ranked.

You can now set default shoes and bikes for different foot and cycle activities!  For bikes this applies to: Ride, E-bike Ride, Virtual Ride, Handcycle, Velomobile Ride, MTB Ride, Gravel Ride and E-MTB Ride activities. We’re Changing Segments – For The Better

We’re renewing our commitment to keeping Segments clean by decluttering duplicate and unused Segments, adding verified Segments and introducing new rules on Segment leaderboards. With these changes, you can more easily find and compete in the places that your community is actually running, riding and moving. We know that the state of Segments is far from perfect - impossible efforts on leaderboards and duplicates (and duplicates of duplicates) of the same portion of road or trail make it hard to get the most out of Segments. What are we doing? Check out the upcoming changes: 📂Segment Decluttering:  We’re combing through our Segment database, deleting any duplicate and unused Segments with bad GPS data. That way you can find the Segments you care about faster. ✅ Verified Segments: The most iconic and popular Segments will now have a ”Verified” badge to show that the distance and elevation stats have been verified and that Strava recognizes that Segment as the “of

New! Custom Waypoints on Web Route Builder ‌🗺

You can now add Custom Waypoints onto the routes you create on Web! Insert waypoints anywhere on your route to denote key points like aid stations, bathrooms, views or even when you're supposed to take your next gel. Try it out today under Explore > Create a Route. Place your waypoints on the route, then click the waypoint that you want to customize.  Bonus tip: If you have a compatible Garmin device, these waypoints will transfer onto your device when you sync your route. This means that you will be able to see how far away your nearest waypoint is while on the go— so you never have to wonder "how far until the next coffee shop/aid station/water stop" again.

We’re Improving Leaderboard Accuracy ✅

Good news! We’re updating our algorithms to make leaderboards more credible, and taking steps to proactively prevent suspicious efforts from appearing on leaderboards – so you can trust that the results you see are accurate. We're withholding from leaderboards any activities that appear incorrectly labeled (e.g. a bike ride getting uploaded as a run) or have faulty GPS data.With these and other ongoing changes, we can better ensure your efforts will get the ranking they deserve and you can trust that the CR, KOM or QOM (plus all the other times on the leaderboard) are the real deal. These changes will be for all activities moving forward – we can’t yet capture past activities. And of course, you can still report an activity if you think there’s one the algorithm missed. Learn more about that here.This is a big undertaking – we saw around 26,000 1-mile running splits that would have been faster than the world record last week! – and the work will be ongoing. Since launching video last summer, athletes like you have brought even more action to activities. Now, we're giving you a new way to upload your video content: on the web. Previously, videos could only be uploaded via the Strava app. Now, you can upload and view on the web as well. It's officially here: Recover Athletics, Strava's recovery and injury prevention app, has added cycling content to its library. This has been a huge ask from the community.Now after a ride, Strava subscribers can access an expanded library of routines created to target and strengthen the shoulders, neck and back. New for desktop! Map your way from point A to Z

You can now add multiple waypoints (stops between the start and finish) to create even more personalized Routes for your activities.  Want to try this now? We got you. This update is available to all subscribers and only on desktop. Map any Ride, Run, Walk, Hike, Trail Run, Mountain Bike and Gravel Ride activity. Just hop on your computer and head here to try it out: https://www.strava.com/routes/new. Once done, save the Route and it will be ready whenever you are. When you check out your Route on a mobile device, you'll also notice we've refreshed the details page for Routes in the app. Now, you'll get detailed map views and a sleek new layout. Check out the step by step guide below and share you favorite route in the comments!
