Dear Strava,

I posted this previously last week and, instead of getting a reply, it appears to have been re-posted as a reply to your own thread - with no answer to my question.

So, again:

The loss of FATMAP has led to me having to pay a more expensive subscription to Strava.  However, the promise of a transition to FATMAP features in Strava is not happening.  The main items I have used extensively in the past and find most helpful are navigation and mountain-user features such as National topographic map layers for UK and EU countries, avalanche forecast, and slope angle/aspect layers, as well as waypoints.  There is no sign of any of these yet - do you have an expected date for the return of these?

If this will not be re-introduced within the year, I would like to close my account with a full refund.

Many thanks,

Matt

Hi SOAS - it sounds like you can at least figure out how to use some FATMAP functionality? How so? I can’t see ANY trace of Fatmap in Strava at all. I have just paid 60euros for Fatmap via Strava only to find that upon purchasing it, Strava have completely deleted the entire Fatmap app. Please tell me I’m wrong! Thanks, L

I recommend checking out apps like Caltopo or Outmap. Outmap (iOS/Android) has features like slope angle, slope aspect, avalanche risk, flat areas, and excellent 3D maps. I think it’s the closest alternative to Fatmap we currently have for winter sports.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

Agree with OP. The app I used to keep me safe and make good decisions in the backcountry has been killed off by an app that does not offer even slightly comparable features. Please bring back fatmap until strava integration is complete.

I’m astonished by the lack of input into this issue from Strava. There are many people who have raised this issue, on many different threads on the Strava support channels, and not one answer from staff as to where the FAT MAP functionality has gone to, whether they tend to bring it into action, or any form of time line.

Could we have answers please as paying customers to Strava, many of whom have bought Strava access on the proviso that FAT MAP functionalities would be timely added in.

Strava has already achieved what it wanted: killing Fatmap to eliminate the competition.
Strava doesn’t care about the Fatmap community; it only cares about turning Strava into just another social network.
Strava doesn’t care about the safety features we lost with Fatmap and never did—it only wanted to eliminate the competition. Sad but true…
