Segments deleted, but there are still flagged segments

With the recent attempts to ‘clean up’ segments I can understand the deletion of duplicates. However many quite normal and popular segments have just disappeared. And yet there are still flagged segments on my desktop feed. Why aren’t all flagged segments immediately removed in one overnight purge, and any segment not ridden in 5 years [this would remove most bad GPS segments, and old abandoned training route.] Perhaps give people the chance to nominate segments for deletion or renaming rights.

Hey @Leviathan,

We appreciate this feedback regarding segment deletion.
As for your idea of giving athletes a chance to nominate segments for deletion or renaming rights, I believe this is would be great to bring up within the idea section.

I disagree with the idea of removing segments just because they have not been ridden recently.  The lack of recent activity does not take away from the effort someone put into earning that KOM even if it was 6+ years ago.  It isn’t just bad GPS data that results in segments not being ridden.  Sometimes the segment was for a specific race course that isn’t used.  Should the people who earned a KOM in a race lose their trophy just because the course has changed since then?  Sometimes it is because the trail itself changed or there are new usage restrictions on a trail making it so people can’t ride it anymore.  Just because you can’t ride the segment today shouldn’t take away from someone’s prior achievement.  Hide the segment if you don’t want to see it.

As far as “flagged” segments, are you referring to the ones people have flagged as hazardous?  If so, I have found that to be very subjective and often done out of spite.  I know of a bunch of segments that were flagged as hazardous in my area that are not hazardous at all (no intersections, no user conflicts, etc...), but were flagged by other user groups because they didn’t like that the trails were allowed to be built in the first place.  There is no means to get a hazardous segment unflagged as far as I am aware, so those would potentially be deleted despite being perfectly safe and good segments.  Please correct me if I am misinterpreting what you mean by “flagged” segments.
