Question

Share image now being cropped to 16:9 portrait

scott14

Up until recently, when I shared a run, the image with stats would retain its aspect ratio. This seems to be no longer the case (in the last week).

For example, here is my latest run, ready to share;

However, when I post or even save the image, it is cropped to the portrait aspect ratio.

This has only happened recently, as I have been sharing in the same way every time. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Happening to me as well, really annoying because it cuts the image

Happening to me too. Any Strava community managers or devs know how to roll this back?

This is such a stupid change. iPhone 13 Pro. I can‘t use the sharepic with the map, because I can‘t even see the complete track.. QA team must be on vacation  during those updates?

same here. IMHO this is a bug that has to be changed back. Original upload image dimensions need to be kept intact for the sharepic!

I have experienced this issue and hope Strava can fix.  The image that is displayed in the “Share Activity” preview ought to match the image that is exported/shared.  I would also vote in favor of not cropping “landscape” orientation images.

I just encountered this for the first time. It’s so annoying. If I save an image it should be the same aspect ratio and orientation displaying in the app. Please fix this.

I hope the strava PMs or Devs see this and decide to revert the change OR AT LEAST give the user the option to choose the aspect ratio they want to export their run image in.
I don’t know how long I can take this.

I have the following ticket Strava ticket #3244470,

with the following response

We’re aware of this new implementation, where maps are now displayed in a 9:16 aspect ratio. This is not a bug but an expected change due to recent updates. However, we will share your feedback with our engineering team, noting that you preferred the previous 1:1 format.

So it's really intentional 😒 Not the best news but thanks for posting!

Thanks for the sharing.  Even if the aspect ratio of exported maps and images was intentionally standardized, the previews should be updated to reflect this.  As it stands, the preview is not an accurate representation of what is exported--much of the map/image ends up getting cropped out.

Same issue here for me as well. Quite annoying if it is not a bug 😔
