Question

Syncing Samsung Health to Strava

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

How on earth does this work? I have a Galaxy Fit 3 and Samsung Galaxy A55. I understand that you toggle on Strava as a synced service through Samsung Health. The watch and phone are synced fine. I’ve given Strava and Samsung Health all permissions, including physical activity and sensors. What shows in the Strava app when they are successfully synced? In the settings bit, I can click two different things. One - ‘Connect an app or device’ with a little watch icon. And two -Manage apps and devices’. The first opens a screen of different watches available, and I select Samsung. It then says ‘visit our support page to connect’ and has a orange ‘get started’ button at the bottom. When clicked, it’s a support post about connecting it - all of which I have done. When I press back, it briefly flashes up with ‘error connecting your device’. The wheel spins in the top right corner of the Strava app too. What do I need to do from within the Strava app to sync and connect?

Hey @calecroyd , Sorry to hear that your Samsung Health account and Strava are not syncing together. At this moment in time, indoor workouts or activities that do not contain GPS information will not push to Strava from Samsung Health.

Therefore, can you first confirm that your activities contain GPS information?

If that is not the case and you have GPS data, can you double-check that you are using the most recent version of Strava and you have updated Samsung Health to the latest versions?

Next, go ahead and disconnect Strava from Samsung Health. On the Samsung Health App, go to Menu (the 3 lines top left) > Settings (gear icon) > Connected Services. Tap Strava and confirm to Disconnect. Once disconnected, go ahead and reconnect by following the directions on Samsung Health and confirming your account information.

Once reconnected, go to your main page on Samsung Health and pull down to refresh. Go to Exercise > View History.  If you still do not see the activities, please submit a support ticket and include screenshot of your activities page and note which activities from Samsung Health are not visible.

It was GPS. I took phone for GPS and music, and Galaxy Fit for heart rate and timing. Outside run. I can see the map on Strava and Samsung Health. I started the runs on Strava and Galaxy Fit 3 at the same time too.

All apps and software are fully up to date. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting to no avail. I've just done it again and yes, the exercise is on Samsung Health with map and heart rate data as it was before.

Is that all you officially need to do for Strava to receive that data? I can see no evidence of the two apps interacting or linking. Within the Strava app itself, what should happen in the 'manage apps and devices' or 'add apps and devices' section? Do I need to do something else? All permissions for both apps are allowed too. I don't even know how I can import or merge the Health data with/onto Strava, let alone have it do it automatically.

Did this get resolved? I'm having the same problem (Samsung Galaxy 6 watch).  It also seems that, when I try, it messes with the mapping function on Samsung Health, leading to it recording the whole run, but only mapping part of it.

HI @Rwlesq

Thanks for writing in - we’re sorry to read that there are syncing issues with your Samsung Health and Strava.

If you haven’t already, please try the troubleshooting steps that @Bryant listed above:

  • Confirm that your activities contain GPS information
  • Confirm that you are using the most recent versions of Strava and Samsung Health
  • From there, disconnect Strava from Samsung Health.
    • On the Samsung Health App, go to Menu (the 3 lines top left) > Settings (gear icon) > Connected Services. Tap Strava and confirm to Disconnect. Once disconnected, go ahead and reconnect by following the directions on Samsung Health and confirming your account information.
  • Once reconnected, go to your main page on Samsung Health and pull down to refresh. Go to Exercise > View History.

If the issue still persists after taking these steps, please submit a support ticket so our team can look into this further.

@Marya

It started to sync on it's own for the next few runs. However Strava shows different details for time, length and BPM - which means 5ks often end up under 5k on Strava - annoying.

Also I've just been for a run and Strava didn't register it. I went into the Health settings and can see the share with Strava toggle was off for some reason - I didn't do this. I've turned it back on and the run has appeared but again with very different details.

I've now got the same issue - error connecting to your device. I've followed all steps mentioned: uninstalled & reinstalled Strave, app version up to date, disconnected & connected Strava from Samsung Health etc. I still get the error message and no synching.

Same, using a Samsung Ultra watch. And followed all of the steps mentioned.

I've been having the same issues as are written above. I've reached out and created a support ticket twice, but none of them have ever been responded to. I have a Galaxy Watch 6, and everything is as up to date as possible.

Any chance there will be a fix to this soon?

Samsung health will sync to Strava but the data is wildly different. Not found the solution and have tried many sites. Think I will wait until it is time for a new watch and ditch Samsung and return to Garmin.

Download the Health Sync app on your phone, that’s how I solved my problem. It syncs your health and fitness data between popular apps and platforms. A friend of mine was having the same issue; he downloaded it, and it worked for him as well.

In my research, it seems that Strava does not detect activities on the Galaxy Watch that do not actively use GPS, such as weight training, for example.

I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and was frustrated when trying to record my weight training workouts on Strava. What impressed me the most was that I previously used an Amazfit GTS 2 Mini, which cost four times less and didn’t have this issue, everything worked perfectly.

I also encountered problems with GymRats. When I tried to check-in, the activity was identified as “Other” instead of “Strength Training,” unlike what happened with the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini. Additionally, during check-in on GymRats, the Amazfit included the number of steps and the distance covered during my strength training session, while the Galaxy Watch 7 did not.

Fortunately, after downloading and setting up Health Sync, I haven’t had any further issues. Hope it helps.

Not working for me despite Health Synch being installed, and my activities are limited to ones that use GPS - cycling, walking and running.

Experiencing the same problems for runs with my Galaxy Watch 7, but Health Sync app seems to sync Samsung Health to Strava....however, it does not pull through the route map from the Samsung Health running activity to Strava (it only logs the workouts without a map). The running workout is a GPS activity.

Any advice to load the map to Strava through Health sync?

Also, the data from Samsung health logs the entire workout time to Strava (including pauses), which affects the logged pace. Any advice how syncing to strava would exclude the paused times? Perhaps any other running apps which would work better for Watch 7 to Strava?

Hi,

I just bought a Fit 3 and ran into this issue. Why on Earth it doesn’t get synced without GPS data? Basically, it renders all indoor activity useless to record, because Samsung Health can’t export activity files.

I’m trying to measure my TSS in cageball. I’ve tried before without the watch, running Strava on my phone and wearing a HR monitor. I’ve tried to save my activity and it said it wasn’t long enough to save. Do they think I’m wearing my freaking phone while I play? Yeah, no.

So, that’s why I decided to buy a smart watch. With HR and steps data it should record something, right? But no, in 2025 you can’t record / sync an activity without GPS data. That’s a shame for both companies.
