My pure running friends find it weird when I post a dance or Zumba workout because it’s not a listed sport, so a kind of shaming is happening! Apple Activities has dance as a choice but doesn’t translate to Strava, and I need to track my activities all in one place.

PLEASE ADD DANCE

And look me up on Strava because I’d love to follow fellow dancers of all kinds so I don’t feel so isolated.

I would like ballroom dancing, barre, Zumba and dancefit or just a general ‘dancing’ for all dance step type classes.

Absolutely! We need a dance category and would be even more epic if it had sub catergories! 
There is pole dancing, Zumba, salsa, ballet etc! 

I use to go and edit the workout details but this becomes tedious. 

Hands up for a dance option! 🙌🏼

YES for this suggestion. I take a twice-weekly dance class and do dance as exercise at least twice a week on my own. I mark it as "Workout" but, c'mon, dance is a viable, popular, beneficial athletic activity and deserves as much consideration as some of the other categories already included. Dancers are athletes.

With the introduction of Breaking to the Olympic Roster this year, I feel it's the perfect time for Dance to be added as an Activity type.
Dance is a fantastic day to move one's body and work one's brain simultaneously. It has been shown to help improve neuro function and build community. It gets the heart rate up, tones muscles and you work up a sweat, sometimes without even noticing! 
It is also a form of exercise that is often relegated to the zone of hobby or pigeonholed as an art. I feel these three classifications are not mutually exclusive, and the Olympic body agrees! Dancers are some of the most impressive athletes on the planet!

It is an incredibly accessible form of working out. Almost all dance teachers will adapt steps/routines to suit the abilities of those they are teaching. It is also accessible in the way that it works as an entry point for people who are new to exercise, or getting back into it after a break (for any number of reasons). Dance classes can be more approachable than Gyms. Many creators teach via social media, giving access to people who can't afford subscriptions, class fees, are home-bound, etc, access to a form of exercise that really only needs music!

There are so many opportunities for creative challenges and engagement on the Strava app, It will slot well into many of the challenges that are already popular, and I think will be very popular with the new feature of users being able to create their own. "Try X number of new workout styles this month" anyone?

Dance classes are one of my main ways of keeping fit and making my brain happy. It would be fantastic to log it and keep it classified in its area, separate from my other workouts.
I could keep going on and on (I am very passionate about the effects of dance as a workout) but I will leave it at this for now.
