I think there’s such a big gap in the market for horse riding. If strava provided horse riding on their sports, they would have a whole new audience who would happily join. I frequently ride and find it frustrating that strava doesn’t have it listed. I use strava to track all my other activities but, some are now skewed as I have to label riding as walking or another sport. It’s also the one thing that’s stopping me from buying premium as I currently don’t see the advantage if I can’t track all my activities in one place.
I’ve just this week cancelled my premium subscription, can’t justify continuing to pay when it doesn’t cover equestrian sports. It’s a shame because I really like the app layout.
It is extremely disappointing to me that the Equestrian community has been asking strava for recognition for a decade now. Perhaps you will finally start to collaborate with your partners. Of all the sports that Garmin could have called out for 2023, they highlighted Horseback Riding as one with an over 30% increase across their users.
It seems crazy to me that there isn't an "equestrian" or "other" category. I play polo and it is far more strenuous than most gym sessions (typical heart rate 180 bpm)
Please add horse riding. Or at least an ‘other’ category.
My Apple Watch, Apple fitness and Apple health recognise horse riding. Why doesn’t Strava? I am currently logging all my horse riding activities under hiking
I'll add another vote for horseback riding! My wife really wants to track her time on the trail, distance and elevation to help with conditioning...all things that are fully functional. I hear of others using little-known apps to track their rides, and I've just been using Strava "Hike" to get an activity tracked, but it feels wrong...and the last thing we need is another separate app to install.
I'm sure there are all kinds of API things and little-known details to consider, but really, I'd be perfectly happy with a dumbed-down "Horseback Ride" option that works just like a hike, just so I can keep our activities tracked separately by type. I don't think non-equestrians realize that a ride isn't just like sitting in an easy chair that walks, so all the heart rate tracking, pace, and everything else will be just the same as any other activity.
Weekly rider here and would love to have equestrian in Strava, please! Even a "dumbed-down" version, as others suggested, to get us started would be really helpful.
It can’t be that difficult to open the app to more activities. I know horse riding is a big part of the strava community. Making this happen will put a smile on a lot of people’s faces.
