Equestrian activities have, for years, seemed like an obvious gap on the platform

@Scout what a complete disappointment from strava. I’m sorry but after years of a community asking for horse riding to be added as a sport (which could have been added on the last sport update)  it will not be considered and you will not be adding any more sports. Absolutely shameful this is such a high request from not only the horse riding community but other sports such as cycling. As we are having to use those sports as the category to track rides which throws leader board and times out. Not only that but I will never pay for premium (like a lot of other people on this app) until this sport is added. Which is a shame as I would gladly pay for the additional extras of premium if I could track all the sports I participate in on here. It gives the impression that Strava doesn’t consider riding a sport.

The most contrarian and bizarre decision!!  Just look at the responses to it so far and you, Strava must realise you are making a huge mistake. You have all sorts of obscure sports which are very difficult to track on the app, horse riding pollutes the stats for cyclists and you are losing subscribers. I cannot believe it would be expensive to add equestrian. More fool you not to.

Strava, this is so, so, so disappointing and an huge opportunity being missed. I sincerely hope you put this request back to under consideration with a view to doing what’s necessary to make it happen🤞

Awful decision! 😔 How hard can it be to add horse riding?! Very disappointed.

Moved to mapmyrun as it has equestrian activities - just find it a much better app now than strava especially for running and running  - just have to manually move some of the integration for virtual spin cycling but that’s esdy enough

I'm very disappointed horseback riding is not being added to Strava. I certainly won't be recommending Strava to anyone.

Went out for 15k ride this morning. Obviously because Strava refuse to add horse riding as an activity I had to track my route using something else. From here on I'm going to take pleasure in logging my rides under all sorts of random activities eg mountain biking, skiing, running, pickleball etc etc etc. Hoping to get a KOM when we gallop on some trails.

Strava - at the very least we should get an explanation re why you are refusing to add horse riding.

Surely it would involve little more than copy paste the cycling mode and adjusting the calorie counter to add riding. Not doing so will cost strava users as well as messing up the stats of other sports. Seems a crazy and bizarre decision.

Hello @JH

Thanks for your post. We understand and appreciate your enthusiasm for adding equestrian sport types on Strava. Please remember that a status of not currently planned does not mean this feature suggestion goes away. It will remain open to votes and comments, and may be revisited at some point in the future.

As stated in our Guide to Ideas, we may not explain or justify why we might prioritize the development of some features over others. I would encourage you to review this Guide, as it provides more information about what to expect when ideas/feature suggestions are submitted.

Lastly, I would suggest reviewing our segment leaderboard guidelines here. Leaderboards are specific to a single activity type, meaning that a run segment only shows runs on the leaderboard, a cycling segment only shows rides on the leaderboard, etc. If activities are uploaded to Strava under an incorrect activity type, the fairness and accuracy of our leaderboards suffer. Please note that if you fail to follow these guidelines, your account may be banned or closed due to the problems it causes on our segment leaderboards. We appreciate your cooperation in advance.

Thank you again, we appreciate that you took the time to share your feedback.

Goodness, Strava don't explain or justify why certain activities are/aren't prioritised but threaten if you use the 'wrong' activity when you're only doing that because you can't use the right one (ie horseback trail riding) because it isn't available!

I use the right activity when walking, running, mountain biking and paddle boarding because these activities are available, simples! The happy world of Strava......

Can you please add horseriding as a sport we can select.  I do a lot of riding in the forest and use Strava to track my rides, which I love.  And the beacon feature is perfect for when I am on my own.

But I either have to pollute cycling or hiking with incorrect data or select workout after the fact in order to be able to use the map option.  I don't think it's fair that we accidentally set local records in the wrong category.

I do several other activities that are listed in Strava, but also horseback riding so I was disappointed when this is not an activity one can choose. I strongly recommend that this is added and is an option in competing apps.

Garmin Connect has this category. I guess I’ll focus there.

looks like you can track pickleball though

It would be extremely helpful to add horse riding as an activity type on Strava. Horse riding is a highly popular sports across many countries.

The ability to track and discover routes using maps and track elevation, speed, distance and heart rate would be extremely valuable to training for equestrian athletes. I would like to specifically underline tracking and discovering routes here. Strava Is an excellent tool for this across other sports (trail running, cycling, open water swimming) and it would be extremely useful to many people around the world to be able to do the same with horse riding. I have frequently had this discussion with other athletes at my stables who use Strava for everything else but are unable to use it for riding.

The lack of an equestrian sport option at the moment means that many record their horse riding activities as bike rides/trail runs/hikes/general workouts. However, these do not necessarily have the correct data that is specifically useful to horse riding (cadence, map, distance, elevation). Furthermore, it is undesirable for these other sports to be spammed with Horse riding activities that are incorrectly categorized because the correct option is lacking.

Strava has announced Equestrian will not be a supported activity.

Horse riders may have better luck with Ride with GPS, who is trying to gain market share by supporting activities not covered by Strava.  RWGPS is actively looking for suggestions on how to improve the activity tracking/sharing features in their platform.
