In the world we are a lot of orienteers that want to label our activities like an orienteering race or training, different from the simple runs. Please, create a new category for orienteering.
It is my recommendation that orienteering sub-type label (same as commute) of run will be established, this will help to facilitate the combination of race and orienteering as a unified run sub-type.
Furthermore, having orienteering mileage be included within the "running" mileage on one's profile would be beneficial as it would not be designated as a separate sport, and thus not be excluded from overall running mileage totals.
I anticipate that this proposal will be met with agreement.
Orienteering should be a sub-category of "All Run".
It should not be an entirely distinct activity type from running, as running is the main movement type of the sport.
While a label (as proposed by @yogevm15) would have its versatility for niche sports like trail orienteering, or mountain bike orienteering, having orienteering as separate activity type has all advantages for getting the existing features "for free" like weekly progress overview, search by activity type, training log etc. With a label this is not possible.
@Soren Initially, you didn't ask whether it should be a sub-activity type. Do you think a sub-category of run is possible?
@Tobbster is right. I would also support separate activity type - to promote the sport with younger audience. Having Strava recognized the orienteering as an activity would help to promote the sport all around the World. Young athletes, who don't have the budget for a premium account could start their journey with a free one. That would encourage them to commit to the training even more.
Please, Strava, add the orienteering! It will be very much welcome!
