I ruck 3 times a week. Would be awesome to add weight to my ruck and it combines that with my walking data. Fingers crossed. Those of us who ruck deserve the calorie credits!
I agree, Xrodgers. If GORUCK can ever figure out a workable app that does this, or someone else, I'll definately make a switch. I primarily use another app for hikes because of the trail maps and they now let people live track you.
This seems like a simple add to include "ruck" and enter a weight.
Strava, are y'all using AGILE methodology and this is sitting on the storyboard?
Has anyone reached out to Goruck about this? It would be in their best interest to reach out to Strava and try to apply some pressure to get this done. Goruck even has a calorie calculator on their website, they could probably work together to develop it quickly.
It has to be done, because without accounting for weight, and just listing your ruck as a hike or walk, your VO2 tracking goes way down. The app doesn't understand why you are working so hard when you are just walking at a given pace. It doesn't know you are carrying 40 pounds.
"Thanks for reaching out! Not at this time unfortunately. I reached out to our team about this and unfortunately rucking just isn't popular enough for it to be added in. I would reach out to their support team {btwb] and make the request. They did advise that most people use the "hiking" option on their tracker to track rucking. Please let me know if you have any other questions or need help with anything else!"
That's the problem we're facing, IMO. We keep hearing use "hiking" or "walking." Well, as we know, rucking is neither. You hike to experience nature; you walk to walk. We ruck because we are weirdos and badasses rolled into one, and it is a dedicated workout with varying weights.
I suppose the main thing I find irritating is Strava's apparent disingenuous intent in putting up a page to gather ideas but giving zero guidance as to what parameters are required in order for them to take action. If they need at least 10M interested users for an idea to be valid then so be it..... but why are they not giving any feedback?
At the moment this just appears to be a forum for users to become increasingly ticked off with Strava's lack of attention.
For those following the conversation now, someone from btwb responded. I explained what we're looking for (measure time/distance/elevation/etc.) while adding the ability to add carried weight for more accurate calculations and label it "ruck."
I hope Strava is taking notice because I like their app for the most part. However, if someone is going to give the rucking community what we're asking for, I suspect many of us will use that instead.
BigJim, I share your concern that Stava is irrelling our comments. I wish they would chime in, say they hear us, and provide some updates.
@veterandaddfw I emailed Strava support to make the request and they sent me the link to this thread and said I should join the conversation. This would suggest that they at least about it?
It's all about the Benjamins... When Strava needs ruckers to subscribe, they'll add the functionality we need to make a Strava subscription worthwhile. Until then, they won't bother.
Thank you for writing in and we appreciate your feedback. I will forward this over to our Community Hub team for review. I do know that the team reads all comments that are posted and the ideas are shared with respected development teams for review.
