Global heatmap is a great way to see what roads are well travelled by fellow athletes. The idea here is to add a dimension to the global heatmap similar to google maps "Typical Traffic" layer overlay to show what time of a given week is most popular. Some route options may show up as well travelled, but may not be viable at certain times of the week due to vehicular traffic. I.e., some roads may be saturated with cyclists on a weekend morning but not on a weekday. This type of feature could also be a good way to better identify commute data if integrated with Strava Metro.

There are filters to make routes flatter or hillier, more roadie or more gravely. It would be cool to have a similar filter to select a safer route by avoiding high traffic density roads or accident black spots.

This would be an ABSOLUTE GEM for me, living in a city with widely-varying amounts of traffic in very popular routes, constantly changing throughout any given day.

I just moved to a new city and am completely unfamiliar with any of the roads and rides in the area so having a way to avoid traffic while creating a route would be amazing!

For routes without sidewalks there should be an option to report how many cars passed on the route. Then the data can be compiled to make average vehicle traffic per hour of the day. This would make it easier to choose a safe time to be on the route.
