I think it would be great if Strava partners with one of the leading augmented reality tech companies (FB, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, Nike, Adidas, etc.) to develop an augmented reality track.

What is it?

The augmented reality track is a way to run with other runners in an augmented setting. If a runner has the glasses and is running on a traditional track, they can start an augmented reality version of their activity that allows them to run with other people at the track. The glasses would place other runners from around

Why is it important?

The track is community place for runners and usually have the same size and layout. This creates the perfect opportunity for people to run together even if they are in different cities around the world. As long as they are on a track, the glasses could be turned on track mode and allow athletes to connect with other runners publically and private.

Runners in public track setting would be connect with runners who are running at the same speed for extra motivation to keep going.

Runners in private track setting can connect directly with a friend who is in a different city to run together.

How does it work?

Wearing the glasses and starting an augmented reality run would allow the athlete to see other athletes on the track. The settings of augmented track mode allow athlets to select their avatar in the virtual world. This would be a cool way to connect with people around the world. Many morning runners run alone, but this would allow them to see other runners and get more energy to run faster. After the run is over, Strava would tag the other runners from around the world in fly-bys so we can give kudos and connect. Just wear the glasses and start running.

Future:

We will be able to run and race each other in augmented reality in the real world. It doesn't matter if we are in the same city. The distance is verified by the app collecting the data. The AR glasses give the boost to give that final push in critical parts of the race. The world can run together on the ART.

Thanks for submitting your idea, Shant. This one does sound like it's quite a stretch to implement, however, it is now open to voting.

What about augmented reality goggles that allow you to race a "ghost/s". Like a virtual pacer. You could upload data taken from a previous run on the same track (by me or someone else), or create your own speed/pace profile arbitrarily according to your goals and the challenges of the route - then just superimposing a floating icon/s in the wearers vision. Would be much more immediate than always trying to crunch numbers on your watch to figure out how well you're performing.

As an avid trail runner and occasional ultramarathoner myself it would help a lot with on the fly navigation, landmarks and directional arrows could be displayed clearly. During a race, the locations of crew, aid stations or other racers could be displayed. Whadya think Stravaites?

Yes, please make glasses with a "ghost", virtual runner who holds the 1st place on segments, so you can see the person 10 meters in front of you, so you get an indication where you are on the segment in real time.
