Be able to select Main Roads Only on maps for safety (ie avoiding wooded areas/isolated areas)

Being able to select busy main roads (with pavements of course) or exclude things like parks and wooded areas from Map suggestions. Living in a country where it gets dark early for most of the year and isn’t always safe (for women AND men) to run this would be super helpful for suggesting popular/busy visible routes!

Thanks for posting about this.  Have you tried our Suggested Routes feature?  We use public Strava activities and open-source data from OpenStreetMap to generate a route in your location. We create them by selecting popular waypoints nearby that match your search criteria, and then we generate a looped course around those waypoints using alignment data to optimize the route. One of the search criteria is "surface type" and you're able to select "paved surfaces".

Hi @Jane 

i think these are functionally quite different. Knowing that the surface is a road doesnt determine how busy/populated and ultimately safe it is. Equally there are grassy/trail routes that run along side main roads that would be fine. 
what the drive is is the increased number of attacks/muggings in the UK especially and being able to know how likely it is that you’ll be alone in that situation

Thanks for getting back to us and I appreciate your comments.  Our existing Suggested Routes features uses popularity of the route to help determine what routes to suggest.  What other map level criteria would you like to see us consider?  I'd be interested in your thoughts on this.
