Strava’s recommended routes are really handy, but I’ve often found myself running through a dark park, or a very poorly lit area as part of the route (and without prior knowledge). As a woman, it can often be a scary situation and makes me apprehensive about getting out to run during the winter.

I believe strava can significantly enhance user safety by integrating street light level data into its suggested running routes.

With safety a paramount concern, providing street light information would enable runners to make informed decisions, reducing the risk of accidents or hazards during low-light conditions. This also promotes inclusivity and accommodates for diverse needs so that all users, regardless of ability, can access safer routes.

One way to do this could be through community collaboration, and asking users to rate the run based on lighting conditions. This would furthermore foster community engagement and a sense of purpose in wanting to ensure all other runners are safe.

For a safer running world. Thank you 🙂

During these dark months, I would find it very helpful to know which roads or paths are lit at night. It could impact the chosen route in advance.

Yes please - this would be greatly useful!

Great idea. It could display similarly to how road quality is displayed (paved/gravel/dirt/unknown)

Or even be able to select main roads only/no parks/wooded areas!

Or, buy some lights.

The idea is nice but where does the data come from? I don't know any sources for that.

I constantly think about how helpful this would be! I love the route mapping function but wish it wouldn’t include parks/unlit sections after dark.
