Decouple Strava Android App from Google Play Services

I interact with my paid Strava membership primarily through the web. I wanted to mute an athlete that I follow, only to learn that I can only do that with the App (a complaint I'll hold for a different thread). I have Google processing as disabled as possible on my phone, but today noticed the Strava App won't even start without Google Play Services enabled, something that won't be happening anytime soon.
