It would be great to be able to create a segment from Point A to Point B and track your time regardless of route.

No need to display while riding/running but good to analyse after especially useful for working out commuter or other regular routes

This would be a great addition, and could help reduce the large numbers of segments created where lots of very similar routes go between two points. Especially useful for hill running where slight variations midway cause the whole thing to not match with existing segments, but many variations are possible. Intermediate points in the track could still be checked to verify efforts.

Also for MTB: I always like to take different routes to climb, but this makes it hard to track improvements as Strava does not allow me to make a comparison.

This would be a great addition for backcountry skiing. For example, there is a trailhead that most people start at and the summit of the mountain is where most people stop, transition, and ski down. However, the skintrack (uphill route) changes frequently due to different snowstorms. This means that the same route to the summit will never be taken. A point to point segment would allow backcountry skiers to compare their ascent times without the requirement of taking the same exact route to the summit.
