Leaving Strava when subs due this summer. Fed up of my feed becoming a Facebook feed of utter junk where people feel the need to let everyone know they’ve done a bit of yoga, or gone for a short walk, or lifted some heavy fings in the gym ffs. No one cares apart from yourselves, and yet the time wasted trolling through this junk, looking for a decent ride or run drives me insane. Bye bye Strava in July.
Right now the best option is the Sauce For Strava extension. But it only applies to web and doesn't work on the app. It is getting extremely annoying that a filter option isn't built in.
Hello, it would be great if there was an option in one’s preferences to not show in your feed any virtual activities of the people you follow. This would surely be an easy development. Vast majority of what I see from others are virtual activities which are of little interest, and consequently the interesting real activities can be missed.
This is just ridiculous and actually makes me a bit angry, for almost one and a half year this has been a request and instead you focus on adding dull features like private messaging, 3D view and so on which has basically no gain. Why not focus on the important stuff? I don't wanna see when my friends go on Alpine Ski, dancing or what ever. It is almost impossible to get an overview of the Dashboard now days. Please add this simple feature.
I totally agree. Private messaging seems a useless feature to me, in the main. I'm sure the odd person has a use for it but, for me, I have the Whatsapp numbers of anybody I want to talk to. The 3D view is an OK addition but a bit of a gimmick IMO. I no longer use the Strava app because it's not fit for purpose. It's the new Facebook, where people feel the need to upload, and get likes for, every little thing they do, no matter how mundane. Stava needs to fix this before all the decent people get bored and move on. If a competitor app becomes available I will move over in a heartbeat, and just use the Stava app for KOMs, which is the only feature I use now.
Strava just announced an integration with a company that makes "smart" dog collars.. so you can better record your dog walks. That should show us all where the priority is...
@KellyC777 the best part about the dog collar is that now you get to see 2 junk activities cluttering up your feed every time someone walks their dog around the block.
I'd rather follow the dog compared to their owner. Further, I'm hoping they integrate a sleep score for the dog, I really want to know how fido is recovering. Make sure this another post in the feed as well.
I've been on Strava for over 12 years now. Feeling more and more like severing ties. They don't really care about their community, as evidenced by refusing to make these changes. Don't you all feel so connected on this forum???? Our voices really matter.
It is official. My paid subscription (10 years) has been cancelled. My feed will still be clogged with useless activities, but I can take some consolation knowing that I am not paying to view what I don't care to see in the first place.
Like others, I commented about this already. Can Strava please update us on the status of filtering activities? It’s annoying to see people post things like: Walk to the mailbox; Grocery store errand; Lawn mowing; and numerous other useless activities. It’s getting ridiculous. This is not a difficult issue to address to create the program code to make this happen. Please make filtering a feature. Too much junk has been appearing lately that real athletes do not want to see. Strava: What’s the update on this happening?
Richard Forzani (A paying subscriber who would to continue in that status)
@Forza I agree with you 100%, but unfortunately I am convinced that Strava has made a long term calculation and determined that it will be more profitable to become a social media platform catering to wannabes rather than remaining a useful training tool for cyclists, runners and swimmers as it was until the past few years. They have also entered into lucrative deals with Zwift, Peloton, Whoop, and countless others to promote those services, so there is no way they will ever offer the option of filtering them out of your feed. Strava is no better than Facebook now, and I'm afraid that's just the way it's going to be.
@ChrisBerry .. I think you have a good point but there is a couple reasons this isn't getting done other than lucrative deals.
1) It takes smart programming to create filters for everyone's feed. It takes lots of testing and vetting and basically, resources ($$$). This HAS to be part of it. It is far easier and cheaper for Strava to not do anything, or certainly, it doesn't seem like it is a project. I have contacted "Support" more than once and each time they reveal nothing. Strava "management" supposedly monitors the "Community Hub" but .. who knows??? 😕
2) Processing time. Just having our feeds "work" correctly without the filters can be a problem, eh? I'm sure I'm not the only one that has to "wait" (tapping the fingers) for the current feed to work sometimes. There are delays and sometimes big delays. Now, imagine adding the potential "filters" processing time to your feed. We're talking tripling (a guess) delay time. This is something they calculate and another big reason nothing has been done.
Lastly what I'll say here is what I do. I just simply MUTE those that post the drivil. I once saw someone post "10 farts in 5 minutes" I guess they were trying to be funny right. I follow those I want. I actually have good friends that post everything, including as was mentioned - walking to the mailbox!! Well, I mute them. But they are friends so I will occasionally check out their feed and kudo the big rides - better, if I ride with them that makes it easy.
