When I'm planning a route on roads I'm not familiar with I need to check various junctions / roads on street view.

At the moment this means I build the route in strava, then have to cross-reference with Google Maps (or whatever your favourite street level photo source is). This is crucial for ensuring it's going to be a fun ride as roads vary dramatically in busyness where I live, and aren't necessarily indicated by size of road. Unfortunately this process is pretty tedious/tricky.

I'd love to be able to drop a few points down on the map and see what the road/junction looks like.

We currently have 3D maps available for routes and although this doesn't match the level of detail that street view does on Google Maps, it could offer a general sense of what the streets are like when paired with the Satellite map overlay.

Second this recommendation. I often have to use alternative route planning options to check surfaces, junctions etc. Would be great if I could do it all within strava routes instead!

Was going to suggest this and saw that the idea was already submitted.

I want to explore a new trail tomorrow morning and it would be great if Street View extended to mountains and trails. The community can submit photos and videos of the different routes.

Somewhat related -- in February we launched Photos on Routes, which may provide some visual insight into current route/trail conditions -- you can read more about the update here.

Photos are a great addition but due to the low volume it isn’t super helpful for new routes. Integrating with Google StreetView (even as a side-bar when you click a location it shows you the view) allows you to check surfaces and road sizes which is critical when planning a new route.

Hello,

Pictures, 3D and satellite view are good but not enough and are not available everywhere, google street view it's a very great "plus" to have

Using street view is so integral to planning a route to check fundamentals like surface type, likely traffic levels and refreshment stops.  It's also a wonderful way to deep dive into other riders rides and be inspired to take on new routes yourself.  I know there's a cost implication but, with Strava's new subscription model, even a selective application for route building (an extension of segment start/end already available) would be so helpful.  At present switching between two windows and trying to find the same spot on a Strava and Google map is beyond cumbersome in 2023!

This has been asked for over several years. It's an essential tool for making routes in new areas as not all roads are as advertised. Please put this to the top of the list!

Great suggestion, would love to see this feature in road builder. ✔️

Other routing apps have street view integrated and I use it often to make sure the routes I create on Strava is good..when i don't know the area so that i dont find any surprises when I am riding. It would be great to see this feature on strava sometime.

While editing a Route in the Route creator, it would be great to have a "click" (or "right-click") menu choice to show Google Street View at that point.  This could open a new webpage with google street view or ideally could open a frame/sub-window for real-time viewing.

the alternative and currently tedious approach today is to manually find the same part of the map with Google maps and manually view the Street View for that part of the road.

This would be very useful to check, for example, if the current planned route has a bicycle lane on a particular road.

Could not agree more! Now I have to open my dusty PC and have Strava and Google Maps in split view. Try to find those roads with heavy global heat lines. Would be so much smoother to have Google Street View in Strava maps.

I can see this has been brought upon several occasions but never implemented, its the one feature that I really, really wish Strava would consider!!
Almost everyone building a route, be it for cycling or running, is now used to cross referencing with google maps, which is time consuming and awkward.
Eventually someone will use a road that strava route builder suggests only to have an incident after finding out it's way too dangerous. Although there was no incident, this exact situation happened to me in Costa Rica where there was no street view, but I was recommended a crazy highway!

Why cant Strava be like RWGPS and others, and simple integrate it? We pay quite a lot of money for the subscription and it seems strange that we still dont have this feature.

If its not going to happen, could Strava at least explain why??

My similar thread has just been merged into this one. I can only hope this is good news. The premiium subs should get this option. I know it's expensive for the API calls to Google, but it would be worth it. I'd pay more just for this function!

Fingers crossed!
