I frequently come across segments that refer to stores, clubs, jokes, insults or just don't make any sense at all. It would be very useful a feature where you could suggest name changes and if the community sees well the change, update them.

Hey @antoniovj1,

Thank you for sharing your idea. We already have a feature similar to what you described within Strava.
If you go to a segment leaderboard, you have the option to share your feedback about the segment.
From there, you can let us know if you feel the segment name is offensive or inappropriate.

Hi Bryant,
I just tried this and there are only 2 options - hazardous and inappropriate. Need a third for vague/nonsensical. I have about 1000 "unnamed road climbs" in my area, or multiple climbs simply named after the highway.

I believe Strava’s position on bad segments and bad (but not offensive) segment names has been to just Hide the segment and create a better one. However, like @KBowen, I have seen a bunch of segments in Rocky Mountain National Park that were all named “Bear Lake Rd Climb,” even though they’re neither on Bear Lake Road, nor near Bear Lake. I understand every segment creator’s right to name their segments however they wish, inside jokes and all; but they can’t possibly be emotionally attached to generic, misleading names like “Unnamed Road Climb,” and so there should be a way to suggest renaming those.

Another frequent problem is segments that have been created with a very poor GPS signal and are greatly deviated from the actual segment. But that is another subject.

For this I think that https://labs.strava.com/slide/ is a good option.

In here (France) lots of dangerous segments and you cannot indicate them as hazardous.Anyone an idea how to solve this problem ? Schermopname (258).png

@zecanard - I think most of those segment names where you see things like "Bear Lake Road Climb" or "Unnamed Road Climb" were generated by Strava.  Early on with Strava, when you went to make a segment, it would pre-fill the segment name with generic names like that.  A lot of people really didn't know what they were doing (hence the rash of terrible segments out there with bad start/end points and bad GPS data), and just clicked through that whole part and just kept the default name provided by Strava.  I really wish Strava would come around and provide us some way to reasonably fix these things.  Just doing something similar to Trailforks where you could have a local "moderator" who has some authority to make minor edits would go a long way.  I've been advocating to be able to see who created a segment so we would have the opportunity to reach out to them to make edits if necessary, but no traction with that either.

@anchskier Indeed I figured as much—which, in my opinion, is all the more reason to let us rename those segments. The users who used those names are clearly not attached to them like they might be if they had come up with something personal or clever, or an inside joke. My previous comment was not worded very well, but that’s what I meant.

Either way, the current solution of hiding and creating a new segment only addresses the symptom and not the root cause.

That's not a answer to my question. I am not talking about the name of a segment but about the possibility to flag a segment as hazardous !!!!

This topic is about the names of segments, and your question has nothing to do with the topic.

Absolutely! There are many segments out there with different names from what locals call them. For example, a trail near me known as Jumpline is labeled as "Jump the Hump". When suggesting a change, it only allows reports for inappropriate or hateful names.

Would be nice to give feedback or suggestion about segment names.

If Strava support has no time to manage these requests,
at least the massege should be passed in the backgroud to the owner of the segment,
and at least he/she has the change to change it...

There are many segments that has sh|tty name or even misleading.

I also have a few badly named segments. E g one popular coast line segment is called around Prince Bertils house. Prince Bertil has never lived there. He lived in another house 1km away so completely wrong. It is owned by another family (Wallenberg) since 100 years back. Since it is a popular streak and lots of people have run this segment, you don't want to flag it for something. You just want to kindly suggest an updated name for it and then if segment owner can see this, then that person can rename it. Or if owner doesn't acknowledge reading the suggestion, then the suggested name gets upvoted by some others it is auto-renamed, or if owner doesn't read acknowledge the suggestion with 3 months it is auto-renamed. Then it will be improved over time and we don't lose any segments.
