Thanks for posting about this and sorry to hear that happened. It's likely that you had a weak GPS signal for this recording. When the GPS signal is weak, less data is recorded and it's common for distance to be overestimated.
A number of things can cause poor quality GPS data. Check out this link for information on troubleshooting GPS issues
