Not The Car

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

My cycling club is aiming to reduce its environmental impact.

One of the things we do is to publish a weekly top three of distance, ascent and longest ride from all the club’s members’ activities.  This encourages members to try to increase their distances ridden or ascent climbed.

Please could you add a tag riders or hikers can use called ‘Not the Car’ or ‘Car Substitute’ or something similar so all Strava users can also easily log and analyse the times they have cycled or walked instead of using their car.  We think this will add to awareness of environmental impacts and what steps people have taken to reduce theirs.  It could also feed into challenges.

Many thanks

This already exists - an activity can be tagged as Type = Commute. This commute tag implies that the activity is replacing a car trip.

Additionally, there are also already CO2 savings challenges that are associated with activities that have been tagged as a commute, since anytime it is tagged as commute, Strava applies a simple calculation to give a rough CO2 savings vs. a car trip.

Thank you optimisticprom.  We are aware of the commute tag, but had expected it for travel to and from work, which can sometimes substitute for a bus or rail journey, not a car.  Also we want to cover car substitution such as shopping.

However, it's up to us how we use it among ourselves so it looks like being.the commute tab.
