I've noticed when I check profiles of friends on Strava that I can see on their Profile the amount of kms they have ran this year (e.g. 2024). However when I do the same for my own profile this doesn't appear. I can switch between week, month, year on my profile but even when I set it to year only the stats show per month but no total amount of kms is shown. Can this please be added.

If you're using the app, you should be able to see that information by tapping on the "You" tab, then tapping your profile photo at the top of the screen, then scrolling down and selecting "Statistics"
On desktop, click your profile and that information should show up to the right under "My Stats" -- there are icons there for run/swim/bike so be sure to select the one you want.

Thank you for letting me know that I cannot see it at 'You' immediately when 'Running' '1y' is indicated but that it is shown via my profile photo when I'm in the You area on mobile.
