Hi ​@Jana_S , could be/possibly, but that discussion you linked seems to be more about people creating too many segments. When you create too many segments, there is a warning banner that pops up that says wait 24 hours. Generally, you can come back and resume creation 24 hours later.  However, my issue is not about creating too many segments. The issue i am having is that when i click the “create” button, the next page says: “Strava is temporarily unavailable” with a link to the strava status page.  The Strava status says “All Systems Operational”  This problem has persisted for more than 10 days, please see screenshot

Since this looks like a unique situation can you please submit a support ticket so we can investigate further?

​@Bryant actually this is the same. Some of the users in the linked thread do have also the too-many-segments issue, but that's on top of the strava-temporarily-unavailable bug. (It would be good if you or someone from Strava could review that thread, it looks like a widespread problem and people are getting quite desperate that there's no word from Strava...)

I have been getting the same error message with segment creation in the past couple of day. It’s very intermittent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it gives me that error message. 

I have been getting rather frustrated with this problem, as have others.  I have found that I have more success if I create a new Segment that is much longer than I need and I then edit it to the correct length.  For example, today I created a new Segment of about 600 metres and it worked properly.  I than tried to create a second one of about 520 metres and it failed.  I had another go at the second one, but this time made it a couple of miles, and then edited it to the correct 520 metres.  Tedious but it eventually worked.  I then tried to create a third Segment and it failed, even with an “over long” attempt.  I’m going to lie down.

The segments I create are easily over a mile each, many times few miles and I still get the error message after creating more than 2-3 (and at times on first attempt) so I don’t think it’s the segment length issue. The problem is very intermittent, I am guessing their servers just get overwhelmed and they you have to prioritize athletes uploading their rides and all calculations involved. Frankly, this is where users would get really upset if they couldn’t upload their rides and get the stats. Unable to create segments is annoying but not being able to to see post-ride stats would be very very upsetting to many athletes.

i’ve been having this same issue the past 2 days, trying to create one specific segment which is the minimum possible distance (0.5km / 0.31 mi).

i repeatedly tried to create the segment probably about 8 times periodically since feb 10th, and always get the same “Strava is temporarily unavailable” error, even though all other Strava pages / features seem to work, and the Strava status page shows everything being online.

i then tried what others here had mentioned and made the segment much longer than needed (which worked right away on the first attempt), then edited the segment to the proper length. that initially seemed to work — though the leaderboard is taking longer to populate than usual.

 UPDATE: I created a ticket at Strava, but they marked it as “solved” without responding or FIXING it. Strava has now since updated the site a little on how we make segments… I was able to sneak a few through the cracks, but now instead of “Strava is temporarily unavailable” it shows an error that says, “Something went wrong. Please try again.”  

Creating a longer segment, then editing it to desired length is a hack that no longer works.

Kinda frustrating when segment leaderboards and some other segment-related features are premium features on Strava.

Do this happen on your first attempt to create a segment or after multiple segment creations?
