Detecting a vehicle when doing MTB shuttles

The new vehicle detection feature when mountain biking really sucks guys.

As can be seen in the photo below all my downhill segments haven't been added to Strava leader boards due to this ‘issue’. The road that we drive up is a dedicated fire road for shuttles only. no riders at all ride up this hill. Its signposted all the way up.

As this is a bike park basically everyone that ever rides here again with strava wont have their times added to leader boards as we all get this stupid vehicle msg.

Fair enough if it was on the road and its stolen someones segment up hill but that will never happen in bike parks.

PLEASE HELP

Was the activity paused when using the shuttle up?

I think the best option is that Strava could add a “Bike Park” type of activity, just similar to what they do with Ski activities, that ignores the uphill (shuttles) and split the activity into “runs” … Basically the logic is already developed, is just a matter of replicating from the ski to the mtb

Until they set up a downhill biking option that would auto-exclude shuttles and lifts like skiing has, you are supposed to pause/stop your activity when you are not riding.  While I agree they need to get the downhill biking option set up, I am glad to see that the system is automatically catching times when people are driving.  Long overdue.

@Jan_Mantau No i didn't as its not a road anyone is allowed to ride up. Usually when doing shuttles on a public road ill do the pause thing.

Im not sure why mountain bike activities share the same segments as road cyclists anyway. Mountain biking should have their own set of segments just like e-mountain biking has. Perhaps that is what will fix this?

Or we could have the option of creating a ‘special’ segment where we get the option to tick a box or something that notifies Strava that we are in a car or shuttle.

Even though the Pause option is effective, several times on a hurry to quickly hang my bike onto the Chair Lift or the Car shuttle, I didn’t have time or just forgot to pause… what would ruin my whole ride.

That may be due to how you recording the ride. If you have a watch or bike computer it’s just one button press. But I would understand it if you record with a phone in some pocket, that would be a hassle to get out and switch to the app and pause it.

My point is exactly when using the GPS, sometimes on the rush of hanging the bike you just forget it. Happened to me several times. If it’s your phone on your pocket, chances are really high that you will forget. It’s a dirty workaround for something that could be simpler, just using the ski logic and creating a Downhill activity type.

Doesn’t necessarily have to ruin your whole ride.  If you forget, you can always go in and “split” your ride, so you can delete a section that was not intended to be included.  This would break up your file so it would show as two separate activities which isn’t ideal for sure, but at least you would retain all of the data from the actual riding while removing the drive or shuttle that you accidentally recorded.
