Feature suggestion – new activity: “Somatosensory Games”
First of all, I’d like to say that I was really happy with the latest activity additions, such as dance and volleyball, as well as the ability to register the muscles worked during strength training. These improvements make a big difference in daily use and clearly show how the platform is evolving 👏
That said, I’d like to suggest a new activity category: Somatosensory Games 🎮🏃♂️
My smartwatch already has this type of activity, and I use it quite often. Many times I do my cardio in VR, such as Beat Saber or other audio-musical experiences, and I really miss having a specific activity on Strava to properly log this type of workout and evaluate performance.
I also enjoy posting short VR gameplay clips when uploading these activities, as it helps better showcase the type of effort involved and can motivate other people to move in a more fun and engaging way.
I believe this category would be extremely useful, as it wouldn’t be limited to VR only, but would also integrate other movement-based gaming systems, such as:
-
VR in general
-
Kinect
-
Wii games
-
Nintendo Switch (Ring Fit, Just Dance, etc.)
-
Dance mats
-
Gamified fitness platforms
-
Other active and motion-based gaming systems
These activities involve real energy expenditure, improve coordination, endurance, and overall conditioning, and are already part of many people’s training routines. A dedicated category would help organize data more accurately, give visibility to this type of cardio, and make performance analysis even better.
Thanks for the recent improvements — and here’s my suggestion 🚀
