On the hill segment leaderboards, I have noticed that the people in first have gotten a faster time by going down the hill instead of up it. For example, there is a VERY steep hill near my house that most people average around 22-45 seconds on going up, but the top two have a time of 5 & 11 seconds, and soon inspection it showed that they had went down the hill (most likely at the cost of their shins) and got 1st and 2nd for that hill. Would adding a system to check if the time was achieved during a rise or decline in elevation be of help?

From the description this seems to be a very short hill of maybe 100 m length, one that was left from the age before the 500 m minimum rule was established. The times for such short segments are completely unreliable due to GPS flukes, even if Strava would incorporate more checks. It’s best to hide such segments on the website or only look at your own durations in case you have a very good satellite reception.
