🚀 Question about updating activity descriptions using the Strava API

Hello, we are developing a third-party service using the Strava API. 📌 Scenario: Our service: Receives activity creation/update events via Strava webhooks. Then retrieves the activity data and updates the activity description by appending our service's content. ⚠️ Problem: After receiving the webhook, we retrieve the activity data and update the description.However, we occasionally encounter the following issues: Our description update is not reflected. Descriptions added by other third-party services disappear. To address this, we introduced a 4 to 5-second delay before fetching activity data, but the same issue still happens intermittently. ❓ Questions: What is the recommended approach to prevent description conflicts when multiple third-party services update an activity simultaneously? We would appreciate it if you could share any official guidelines or best practices related to this. Thank you! 🙏

Retrieving Estimated Power in Activity Stream via API

Hi, I’m trying to export power data from an activity using the Strava API. I have a request that fetches the activity stream with the watts parameter. When a power meter was used during the activity, the values are returned correctly. However, if the activity was performed without a power meter, the API returns an empty stream. I noticed that in other places, such as the average_watts field, the API provides a value based on estimated power without any issues. Additionally, on the Analysis tab of the Strava activity page, it’s possible to view estimated power at each time point. Is there a way to retrieve estimated power through the API so that it appears in the activity stream? Maybe there’s another endpoint or parameter that should be included? Thanks for your help!

Hello, this is New Balance Korea. We connect to Strava through an app called MYNB to record and store running data and provide related services to our customers. However, for a while, the data has not been reflected properly, and recently, the icon for installing Strava app has not been viewed on Google Play and the App Store. Do you have any plans to suspend or reduce services to South Korea? If so, please answer the specific schedule plan.

Webhook Event Data

Does anyone know why the event data being sent to my webhook looks like a schema definition, instead of the actual activity data? Hello good morning, I have a problem with the authorization URL

This is my local url: https://www.strava.com/oauth/authorize?client_id=146505&response_type=code&redirect_uri=http://127.0.0.1:8001/api/v1/user/strava-authorize/1/2020-06-20T23:16:53.000Z&approval_prompt=force&scope=read,activity:read_all But when I put the production URL I get this: https://www.strava.com/oauth/authorize?client_id=146505&response_type=code&redirect_uri=www.raiseday.run:8001/api/v1/user/strava-authorize/1/2020-06-20T23:16:53.000Z&approval_prompt=force&scope=read,activity:read_all And in the api section https://www.strava.com/settings/api I have the url configured, what will be the problem in production

Webhook Stopped working

Since february 27, my webhook -that was succesfully working since 2018, stopped receiving events from Strava. Nothing changed on my application side. [ { "id": 130673, "resource_state": 2, "application_id": 16505, "callback_url": "https://www.cycloclub.be/stravacallback.php", "created_at": "2018-11-14T08:19:33+00:00", "updated_at": "2018-11-14T08:19:33+00:00" } ] I checked everything, deleted the subscription (succesfull), and re-registered it, which fails with message GET to callback URL does not return 200. I did all checks, verified the callback-URL, but can’t figure out the issue.It seems that Strava -for some reason- can no longer reach the website/URL, as I’m also seeing no longer requests coming from Strava to the webserver since feb 27. Has anyone encountered similar issues ?

Is there any known issues on WebHooks ?

Since the 27 of february mu Webhook stopped to work. I did not received any activities since that date. Strava even did not try to reach my Webhook ‘( i see it in my logs ). So i tried to delete the previous webhood subscription and re create IT, and it does not succeed. Anybody with same issue ? Any clues to help me ? Thank you

How to get all segments from a Route in the API?

Hello all, In our cotacol (Belgian) app, we are leveraging Strava Segments so our members can "collect" different hills in Belgium. Those hills match one:one with a Strava Segment. Now, I am building a functionality, so that users can select one of their Routes and get to see which of the 1000 segments that would be conquored with that Route... However, just like the default behavior with an activity, it seems not all the routes are returned in the response for a Strava Route. And I am wondering if there is a similar query string parameter we can use, to indicate we need all segments in the response. (just like include_all_efforts with the GetActivity operation). What I am doing now: - GET /routes/{routeId} This only returns a subset of the segments in the payload.

Monthly activities language

If I refresh when looking at the monthly activities, the language of the type of activity (i.e run, walk etc) often change to another language. I have English as the language on my phone, and the rest of the app is in English, but when refreshing this page I have seen French, Spanish, German, and some languages I do not know which were. It is totally random and sometimes all of the activity type names change and sometimes not, see screenshots.

Heatmap layer on activity

Hello, In the newest app update there is a missing heatmap layer option. Currently it looks like here but in the past (even 2 weeks ago) there was an option like below (currently working only on segments but not activity...) Could that option be restored? Thank you

Beware of Links When Updating Activities

Not sure when this started, but I noticed that whenever my app would POST details to the /activities API endpoint, I’d get an error saying the description was invalid. I eventually found that the cause was that I was adding my app’s domain to the end of the description (e.g. Workout by StrideOn.run). Removing the .run portion fixed the issue. This has previously worked for years, so it might be related to Strava’s recent updates regarding links. Even if you’re not specifically adding a domain name in the description, this error could happen if Strava thinks that it is or if it’s user-generated and contains what appears to be a link.

Pause button on Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro

Hello, after Samsung firmware update in December 2024, I’m not able to use the button for pause the activity on my Galaxy Watch 5 Pro anymore. Its necessary to click on screen for pause, which is uncomfortable (because of gloves, etc). Do you think, you can reair that?Before the Samsung Galaxy Watch firmware update, it worked properly.

Deauthorize webhook call doesn't happen

Hello,Until recently (I can’t tell exactly the date from which it didn’t work anymore), I had no problem calling the deauthorize URL ( https://www.strava.com/oauth/deauthorize) for a given user, which in return triggered my webhook to let my backend knows that the user, from the strava pov, is disconnected from my app. I then delete the user connection with strava on my app (and thus his strava token from my DB). But now, this webhook (containing the specific key:value ‘{ "authorized" : "false" }’ ) is not called and doesn’t let me knows that the removal of my app is effectively done on the strava side. This webhook is however effectively called if the user delete my app from his strava account. Is it a change of behavior from the strava webhook system or is it a bug? I don’t see any change in the documentation about it. Thanks

command line tool and increase number of athletes

Our bicycle club has authored a command line tool that connects to the Strava API to download an athletes ride data so we can establish metrics for ride difficulty in our region. However we just realized it won’t work because the number of athletes allowed to connect is only 1. To increase the limit we have to submit an application review form. However we just noticed the Strava API Agreement demands the app have some sort of GUI (Graphical User Interface) so that logos can be displayed. But a command line tool can’t display logos. Does that mean command line tools are prohibited from using the API? How do we get around this problem?

When did this "Fan Favorite" concept start and can it end?

Hi, I started noticing in the recommended "Who to Follow" section the title, "Fan favorite on Strava" below a person's name. When did this start and honestly, can I hide this concept? My issue is that it feels like Strava is rewarding the person who follows few people and has a lot of followers. Like someone who follows 30 people but has 3000 followers. Also, some "fan favorites" haven't posted in over a year; so they are "ghosts" who had a lot of followers. Anyway, the whole "Who to Follow" isn't something I care to see but mainly due to this "reward the cool kids" concept. Thanks for reading and any help.

Hi, I recently purchased a CMF smartwatch, the CMF Watch Pro, but when trying to link my CMF app with Strava, I get the error 403: "The limit of connected athletes has been exceeded," and it doesn't allow me to complete the connection. How can I resolve this issue? Thank you.

Additional API Limit Increase

I have an app that is part of the Developer program which has a read rate limit of 30k/day. I was operating well under that limit (2-3k) until recently when I gained a lot of users. Has anyone had success with requesting to scale their API to fit the need? I would love for users to not have a bad experience when first opening the app. Thanks!
