Can you please double check that you have the latest available version of the app (420.0.0)? If not, update it. 

Also, are you able to follow people from the website? Thy that - if it's possible, then it means that there's something wrong with your app (and it might help to completely uninstall and install again). If you can't follow people also from the website, then the problem is rather with your account and/or on the server.
