Since the last update, Strava is using a huge amount of my iPhone battery even when running in background mode with the screen off. Has anyone else had the same problem and is there a solution, please?
Hi
I haven't noticed anything unusual myself - I’m using a beta on my iphone, i.e. currently on v. 423.0.0, but even with the currently public 422.0.0, I haven’t seen any extra battery drain.
I’d suggest that you try uninstalling Strava and installing it again, just in case it got somehow corrupt, some processes got in a loop or something. All your Strava data is on the Strava servers, you won't lose anything by the reinstall.
Thanks for the quick response. Yesterday Strava used 45% of my iphone15 battery while running only in background mode (screen off) for about 9hrs. Would you say this is normal battery usage?
Whoa, that's a lot! Well - maybe also depending on how you use the app, but still…
I checked how much battery Strava uses on my phone - 3% in the last 24 hrs, 5% in last 10 days. Having said that, I don't use Strava for actual recording of the activities - I record via the Apple workout app (on my AW) and sync to Strava once done. Sometimes I use Strava while on a run for navigation (to check the heatmap / nearby segments when I’m in a new-to-me area), then it eats a bit more, but 45% sounds a bit too much.
There could be some process stuck in the background, try reinstalling the app, that should help if that's the cause of the problem.
Ok thanks - I have deleted and reinstalled the app. I’ll repost here when I have some new info to report.
