With every update, the photo gallery gets worse and worse when it comes to adding and browsing pictures from my activities. First there was the awful change in the app with the new gallery layout where you now have to swipe each photo manually, instead of having them all displayed top-to-bottom like before. On top of that, captions aren’t visible in the normal view anymore. You have to open a photo, read the caption, go back to the main screen, and repeat the whole process for every single picture. It makes no sense and just makes the whole experience unnecessarily frustrating.
Now I’m seeing changes creeping into the photo gallery on the desktop version too. In the new layout, the caption is shown somewhere at the top and only with a limited number of characters, long text just gets cut off. And as if that wasn’t enough, all the photos in my older activities got scrambled and no longer show up in the order I originally uploaded them. I always document my trips with photos and try to build a kind of story from the day, so the chronological order really matters. It’s getting harder and harder to enjoy using the platform when every update breaks something that used to work and makes the whole experience worse. And yes, there is an option to drag photos around and change their order, but the functionality is awful, if you have a lot of pictures, it takes ages to organize them properly. How hard would it be to add a simple toggle to sort them chronologically by the time they were taken?
I understand Strava is mainly a cycling and training app, but by now you’re big enough that there are many different communities here. It’s disappointing that the travel community keeps getting hit by changes that make things more difficult. I’ve had a premium account for years, and if the point of all this is to discourage people from uploading photos, maybe because of storage costs or whatever, then at least offer a premium option that keeps the full gallery functionality. I’d gladly pay just to stop the gallery from being downgraded and restricted even further.
