And yes, Strava has my premium subscription money until the annual renewal comes up, so that don’t f’n care.
Super frustrating. For a site that promotes agency, via engagement in sport, this leaves us pretty gd powerless
Hi, i just was looking for this kind of error. When i try to record a weight workout using Strava in Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 pro, after 8 or 9 minutes, app stops the training by itself. This problem started to occur a few weeks ago, before that there was no problem. Maybe an update issue?
Perhpas, but Strava has done nothing but email me, multiple times, and say they’re working on it. No results yet. given the number of paying subscription members, including me, that’s pretty disappointing.
I appear to have a resolution!
TL;DR - start an outdoor activity (run/walk) and grant the app location permissions when it asks. Indoor activities should then not end on their own.
Strava support got back to me with the advice above and my app didn’t have location permissions, so I recorded an outdoor walk with GPS once location permission was granted. I’m pleased to say that my first 40+ minute indoor activity since then recorded absolutely fine and only ended when I wanted it to!

Way to late. Ended my subscription to Strava and changed platform.
5 months. Virtually half a year to fix it.
Sorry Strava, that gave us a long time to look around and find alternatives. That kind of timeframe to fix basic functionality just isn’t on with the amount you charge.

Thank you for the update! Looking forward to trying it out.
Thanks, except I have my Apple watch settings on “automatic update” and the app cut out during a workout, again. Now it may be because a phone call or false “Did you fall?” message came up, but even then I never recall that’s happening before. So I assume I have the latest app version, and it’s still happening. WTF?
Everything is updated but I did a Weight Training workout today and the Strava app quit short of my actual time and doesn’t show up in my Strava activities. So far not impressed with “the fix”.

This ticket needs to be reopened, if not I’ll create another.
The issue IS NOT resolved at all, the same problem exists.
This is what I’ve found, the heartrate will be maintained on the watch IF you’re on a setting involving distance, for me a bike ride or walk. If I choose Workout, or indoor ride it continually stops recording my heartrate and often just closes the app (on watch). Sometimes it NEVER regains the heartrate and I need to close the session and reopen another.
Not fixed!! What am I paying for again???
Absolutely not solved and becoming worse and more frequent. Incredibly frustrating.
A recent development is an occasional dialog that says I have to open the Strava app on my iPhone when starting from my Gen1 Apple Watch Ultra.
This evening, Strava recorded me going down a trail I didn’t even ride on due to the mid-ride app crash.
How about wasting less engineering time on AI features no one wants and fix your core product?

Where do we submit a ticket!!??
Seriously though Bryant, there’s a heap of information on these forums for your developers to at least start with.
Whenever the app attempts to record heartrate for an activity that DOESN’T involve or expect considerable GPS movement (so ‘Workout’ or ‘Indoor Ride’ for example) it continually loses the heartrate and then just randomly decides to close on its own.
Get your developers looking at the logic difference between activity types, they’re unquestionable different. When I cycle or walk I DON’T have the problem.
There, away you go… and maybe I’ll get some value for the $99AUD I’ve dished out for all this frustration and won’t have to demand a refund.

Thank you so much for your patience & understanding.
I have only had the opportunity to record one activity with my apple watch since opening a ticket and implementing the steps they recommended. The strava watch app didn’t crash on me for the first time in ages. Strange I have to open the app on my phone, which wasn’t the case for years. But optimistic it will work consistently again.
Please follow these steps:
- Log out of the Strava mobile app on your iPhone.
- Use the Watch app located on your iPhone to force an uninstall of the Strava Watch app. Note that it may take some time for the app to be fully uninstalled from the Watch face.
- Confirm the app has been uninstalled from the Watch.
- Uninstall the Strava app from your iPhone. *Please make sure not to delete your Health data as we now only sync the last 30 days to the Health app
- Force close all apps on the iPhone.
- Restart the Watch and iPhone.
- Download and install the Strava app on the iPhone.
- Confirm you are logged into the Strava app.
- Confirm the Strava app has been installed on the Apple Watch.
- Unlock the display on the iPhone and load the Strava Apple Watch app.
- Watch for and approve prompts on both devices.
