Running pace based challenges broken

Completed the Virtual NYRR Resolution Run 5K this morning and it seems there are now multiple things broken and not working that had previously worked in the past. The leaderboard is currently being sorted by the total distance ran instead of the pace done for the challenge. So someone who did a 10k run at 12:00/mile is ranked higher than someone who ran 5k in 15:00. Secondly the summary page that shows you completed the challenge is just taking stats from your first run that is over 5k, regardless of whether the run that is counting towards your challenge. (Thankfully it seems like something is actually still working because if you filter to your followers you can see it links to the correct run.) Finally your position on the overall leaderboard is nonsensical and shows a position greater than the number of people signed up for the challenge. For context I’ve been doing the NYRR virtual challenges for nearly 9 years through Strava and I can’t remember things ever being this messed up. Apologies for the block of text as the formatting on the community site apparently doesn’t allow line breaks when typing on a mobile device…

I’m not privy to NYRR, but doesn’t it have its own discussion groups or support sites?

The challenge is hosted through Strava:

The challenge’s details say it's based on distance, not the best 5k time:

Nice, looks like they set this up wrong compared to all their previous challenges. To clarify I’m saying it’s wrong based on this not being how it has been run since at least 2018 and sorting and applying by distance makes no sense logically. For example this was the last 5k challenge from last year;

If the first run above 5 km completes the challenge then it makes sense that exactly this run is displayed in the overview as such. Completing a challenge and leaderboard rules are two different things.

That leaves only one problem that is still unresolved, that the current rank seems to be greater than the number of people who have signed up. @td2  Can you please post a screenshot for that? Note that screenshots need some time to be approved.

I still have another post pending but no, its doesn’t make sense for the context of the challenge. Previous challenges weren’t configured like this and in the context of it being a distance based challenge it shouldn’t just grab your first effort, especially in something as short as a 5k. There’s literally 8 years of precedence for how this is supposed to work and this ain’t it lol. Applying a cumulative distance based leaderboard is just another indicator of something being misconfigured. The icing on the cake is the overall ranking like shown below showing a placement that is greater that the number of people signed up for the challenge:

That’s a weird ranking for sure. I would guess it has something to do with many athletes only having qualifying activities not visible to everyone and that the total number of participants at the moment is shown with 33,842, but it’s for Strava to sort that out.

It's not cumulative distance, it's the longest qualifying run. The first person on the leaderboard has a private profile so I couldn't check but the 2nd seems ok - they did a 70k ultra and several shorter runs before that, so the leaderboard appears to work as designed.

Looks like the main problem was fixed with it applying the first eligible activity and the results posted to NYRR correctly. They also fixed the qualifying activities pace getting picked up instead of the overall duration. Leaderboard is still hosed but that doesn’t really matter since its recorded on NYRR correctly. Almost seems like they reset or reconfigured the challenge because a second completion email went out when the time starting showing up correctly
