Sharing rides to FB

Wasn’t sure where to ask this, so forgive me if it’s not the right place. I occasionally like to use the share to facebook feature for a ride, and in the past it would post showing a small map of the ride as well as some data (miles, speed, accomplishments). Lately though, it only displays a link, with no info. I’m not sure why, as I hadn’t changed anything. I see my friends shared rides still appearing the same, so I’m not sure why mine are different.

Thanks a lot @Bryant, much appreciated. Just a note, sharing to FB doesn't fail in this case, it's successful, but it doesn’t include the map preview (thumbnail) anymore. Which is probably an undesired change also for Strava, because people tend to click links at FB less if there's no preview...

Try update app now. It's fixed!

Hi @exercion,

there are multiple media types that you can share from the Strava app. Once you tap that “share” button, swipe through the maps/photos/graphics - the map with stats used to be the default one, now you need to swipe couple of times to get to that view.

Let us know if it worked 🙂

Hi Jana, thanks for the reply. I should add that I don’t share from the app and never had, I use the website. I can try the app to see if it behaves differently.

Oh - apologies, that's was my incorrect assumption.

Would you please have e.g. a screenshot of how your shared activity looked like prior to this change? So we can try and find the best equivalent, now that the “flyover” videos seem to have taken the priority...

Hi Jana, sorry it took a bit. But here are two from FB, both shared the same way. One with a map and miles. I had another that had a map, but no miles.

Thanks Eric. It looks like for some reason, Facebook isn't processing the preview/thumbnail as expected. I know FB is doing this on purpose for certain types of links (typically news portals - to avoid having to pay for the content), but I don't think it's intentional for a web like Strava… rather some issue with metadata on Strava side, but I’m just guessing.

@Bryant hi - could you please bring this up with the product team? It looks like a bug to me. Thanks a lot!

Thanks Jana! I appreciate the help. It had struck me as very strange, and thought I was missing something.
