Hey y’all!

So I went down a little rabbit hole to figure out how to submit feedback on the app, and took a minute to register for the Strava Community Hub. That said, my usual username I use everywhere, “marahaga”, persistently received an error message along the lines of it containing restricted text. The same went for my full name. So I went ahead for the dumbest thing I can think of in 2 seconds to prove the point that;

1 - the username restriction parameters probably needs a bit of love.

2 - The community hub should really allow you to use your Strava profile to register or simply be connected to your Strava account.

Anywho on to the dumb little thing I was trying to log in to report! 😂

I had noticed before, but today it really caught my attention that activities logged in Finland display as dCity], aProvince], so e.g. Helsinki, Uusimaa. Meanwhile, someone I follow posted up a run in “Philadelphia, USA”, which got me thinking is Finland the only country where the actual country name doesn’t appear in the location? Was it missed somehow when updating some github repository of location lists? I vaguely remember provinces and states appearing at some point, but every activity I could find from the USA and Canada simply have the country names these days. I also had a run earlier this year in Belfast, where it appears as “Northern Ireland, United Kingdom”. I bet that’s even a bit triggering for some in all honesty.

Long story short, any chance a review could be done of location taxonomy? Regards, a resident of Helsinki, (Uusimaa - but no one ever refers to provinces over here), Finland😉

The name restriction is weird, I don’t have any inkling what could be causing that. But the location thing: It shows Finland for me:

I don’t have a proof but reckon you see the country if you are in another one but the province/state if you are in the same country.

I doubt they'll ever be able to come up with a solution to location names that will satisfy everyone, the world over, due to cultural differences.  It's understandable citizens don't use provincial/state names in smaller countries, but it's almost a necessity in the US where many town and city names are duplicated among the 50 states.  My guess is Strava subscribes to a service to match your ride/run's starting latitude and longitude with a database of location names.  Strava doesn't have the staff to curate such a database, they just stick the vendor's supplied name onto your activity.
