the latest lawsuit from Strava against Garmin is just another example of why I’m so glad I cancelled my Strava subscription 2 years ago. I don’t miss it and this latest lawsuit is why I continue to tell my friends who still have a subscription that they should cancel.

I wanted to add my name to the list of complaints against Strava. If this doesn’t get resolved in a way that doesn’t affect the end user I will be done with using Strava services. This is a poor choice by Strava.

I chose to pay for Premium sub even though I don’t really need the added features, because I didn’t mind contributing to what is a good service.  However, they’re being such dicks that I have cancelled my sub.

I am not renewing my premium if garmin lawsuits keep going

Very disappointed in Strava with this. I’ve had a subscription for 6 years but would be done if they wreck anything with Garmin.

I’m here for the comments 😀

and I hope Strava’s guys are reading all these now… This is ridiculous, whatever happened between the two parties this is pissing off the vast majority of the users, including myself.
They need to understand that we all can live without PRs, KOMs and Kudos… Garmin Connect has everything an athlete needs really… I get it’s UI/UX’s not the best, but does work.

So now let’s wait and see who’s the loser… Without user subscriptions and data, no platform can sustain for long.

Also, there’s tons of apps that integrate with Garmin and its devices.

btw. I think that Segments on Garmin were there for so many years now.. so what’s the issue now?

Let's put it this way.  I would much rather my subscription went into the development of new features, rather than paying lawyers.

HAHA…New features you say? Do you remember how long it took for Strava to get dark mode on their app? We begged for it for years before they reluctantly delivered it! I think their software release cycle mirrors the annual Martian calendar year. The truth is, if Strava has no data (Garmin) Strava has nothing really. Our data is why Strava exists. Seriously, how many people do you know use the Strava app to record runs or rides? For real. I used to do it until I learned there are WAY better methods for tracking my activities than using an app. For Strava to think they can dictate how data providers can and do share data is a pipe dream. Frankly, if Strava doesn’t drop their lawsuit, I would not blame Garmin one bit if they chose to cut Strava off at the knees (data wise) and really put some effort into Garmin Connect. I’d stay with Garmin and kick Strava to the curb. Easy decision.

I’ve been a Strava user for 13 years, paid subscriber for about half that. I’ve had a Garmin device for less than a year. If this nonsense breaks the Garmin-Strava connection, I will cancel my Strava subscription without hesitation. Strava is nice, I enjoy the social aspect and I like comparing segment times over the years, but the useful data is all from Garmin. Seems like Strava is shooting themselves in the foot.

I’ve been part of the endurance world for decades, as a world class athlete for Team USA, a coach, and someone who’s seen how powerful technology can be when it connects people, not corporations.

That’s why I’m deeply disappointed by Strava’s decision to sue Garmin, and by Suunto joining in. These lawsuits aren’t about protecting innovation. They’re about trying to stop competitors from thriving, and that’s not how progress happens.

Garmin and Strava grew together as one provided the hardware, the other provided the heartbeat. Together they created the ecosystem that keeps millions of athletes motivated and accountable. (We all love the segments!)
Now Strava is trying to tear down the very partner that helped it succeed, instead of simply improving its own platform.

As a coach and paying subscriber, I’ve made my stance clear:
👉 I’ve canceled my Strava subscription.
👉 I will no longer support companies that use lawsuits instead of innovation to compete.

And as for Suunto(a Chinese Company now) I won’t be buying from them either. A company who is loosing large market shares and trying to cash in on patents before they become irrelevant....publicity is publicity whether good or bad.
When a company’s strategy becomes litigation instead of inspiration, it tells me everything I need to know about where their priorities lie.

I stand for brands that lift the athlete experience, not limit it.
...For collaboration, not conflict.
...For innovation, not intimidation.

To every brand listening: remember who built this world.
It wasn’t your lawyers.
It was us.....*** the athletes. The ones training, logging miles, sweating, pushing, sharing, and inspiring others***

We deserve unity, transparency, and progress not some boardroom wars over who owns a “segment” or a “heatmap.”
Because while you fight for control, we’re out here doing what this community was meant for all along: getting better, together.

Why would Strava risks their customers joy, and revenue by this move? If Garmin cuts off data feeds to Strava because of this, then the majority of your customer base will cancel Strava.

You have loyal customers. By risking their access to Garmin devices you are making your customers nervous. Why why why. You need Gamin more than Garmin needs you.

Stop the ego trip. Don’t upsetting you paying customers. Stop this nonsense.

I just bought Garmin Watch in July and got a Strava subscription at the same time . I currently considering other options other than Strava.  I cancelled my Subscription for the Winter and will reconsider whether or not resubscribe in the Spring.  This lawsuit is stupid, it sounds like some of the features that Strava is trying consider their domain are actually not really special.  What makes Strava Special is it’s community and if Strava doesn’t serve their community then someone else will come and replace them.
