Strava’s notion that their version of recorded power data is better is just silly.  And it seems to be getting worse.

I use this platform as I would a journal of my activities.  And it shouldn’t be subject to interpretation.  Why Strava thinks it knows better than the actual device doing the recording is mystifying.

For my ride today, Strava lowered the actual average power by a full ten percent, and normalized power by thirteen percent.

They should just abandon this practice, especially for people who are uploading ACTUAL data.

Hi @dbhazz,

this has been discussed quite thoroughly in the following topic - check it to see if it explains the differences that you’re observing:

Hi Jana

I’ve read about this for a while now, but never bothered to post a comment.  I understand Strava’s reasoning, but I still think it’s flawed.

I have used a power meter for almost 20 years, and Strava is still the only platform I know of that does its own calculation about the data without giving the user the ability to select how the data is interpreted.

I finally just thought I’d add my rant to Strava’s odd logic:  leave the data alone, or at least let the user set their own preferences.
