Dear Strava users!
I am an active Strava user! I would like to suggest adding a new activity type and gear option – namely “Stroller Run” – which I believe would be very useful and motivating for many parents who are also athletes.
The need and benefit
* Many parents, myself included, combine training with stroller running. This is a very common activity, but it has a different character than regular running – it requires more effort and impacts pace and stats in ways that are not currently reflected in Strava.
* There are already suggestions in the Strava Community Hub about this, for example the idea “Stroller running/pulling a bike trailer (and sports with extra weight in general)”, which has received support but is still marked as “Not Currently Planned” (communityhub.strava.com<https://communityhub.strava.com/t5/ideas/stroller-running-pulling-a-bike-trailer-and-sports-with-extra/idc-p/8991?utm_source=chatgpt.com>). It would be great if this could be reconsidered.
* There are also discussions on Reddit where users express frustration that Strava does not yet account for this activity type, which affects both stats and motivation:
“It’d be awesome if Strava added an option to tag runs with a stroller or adjust stats for the extra effort.” (reddit.com<https://www.reddit.com/r/Strava/comments/1gz460t?utm_source=chatgpt.com>)
“It would be good to get some traction on this Strava development to add a stroller run activity…” (reddit.com<https://www.reddit.com/r/Strava/comments/vxc4la?utm_source=chatgpt.com>)
Suggested solution
1. New activity type “Stroller Run”:
– Allow users to record stroller runs separately in their stats, which would help highlight the unique effort involved and motivate parents who train this way.
2. Add stroller as gear option:
– Just as Strava currently supports bikes and running shoes (including weight input) as gear (support.strava.com<https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/216918727-Adding-Gear-to-Your-Activities-on-Strava?utm_source=chatgpt.com>), strollers could be added as another gear type.
Benefits for Strava
* This would expand the user experience and make Strava more inclusive for parents and athletes training with children.
* It could increase engagement and sharing within parenting and family fitness communities, further strengthening Strava’s brand and reach.
* It would also help others understand why some runs might appear “slower” or more demanding, putting performances in the right perspective.
I really appreciate the Strava platform and hope this suggestion will be considered.
Best regards,
