Verified Zwift Strava segments are using real-world GPS elevation data instead of Zwift's

As the person maintaining the library of Strava segments for Zwift, I worked with Zwift HQ and internal Strava contacts to determine a list of 10 segments to turn into Verified segments back in November 2024 (read about that here).

There’s a big issue, though. Now that these segments have been deemed “verified”, Strava is using real-world GPS data for the segment elevation, instead of the GPS data Zwift supplies. This is a problem, because Zwift places their segments (even the roads like Alpe du Zwift which are based on real-world roads) elsewhere in the world, to keep virtual from overlapping with IRL.

Here’s the list of verified segments. Click any of them to see what I’m talking about:

  1. Alpe du Zwift
  2. Volcano KOM
  3. Epic KOM
  4. Mont Ventoux KOM
  5. Box Hill KOM
  6. Hilly KOM
  7. Tempus Fugit
  8. Fuego Flats Forward Sprint
  9. Volcano Circuit
  10. PRL Full

Thank you for the tag, @Jana_S

@eschlange And thank you for raising this concern. I have spoken to the relevant colleagues on our Product team who are investigating further. My team will be in contact with you and we hope to have a resolution available soon.
