Why can't I see maps on the detail screen in the app?

Hello all. I can see the activity description, small map and any media media uploaded on everyone’s activity on my feed screen. But when I press the small map to get to the detail screen I see all details of the activity but cannot see the map.  All I see is the line of the route with no underlying map.  There’s just a blank white screen under the route.  This is true for everyone’s activities and not just my own so I don’t think it’s a map visibility issue on my end. I’ve tried logging out and logging back in, rebooting the phone, clearing the cache and data and even uninstalling and reinstalling the app but I stiil have this problem.  The website works perfectly nomally.

The phone is a Oneplus 10T 5G running Android 14. Could it be a dependency that the app has on some component of the OS on the phone?  I’ve disabled a number of Google apps, like Gmail, Google Assistant, Android Auto and a few others. This problem started happening after a recent Strava app update and used to work before even though I had already had those Google apps disabled.

I’ve attached a pic of what I see on the detail screen.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi @rocky5, as you mentioned Android - any chance you're using the “duckduckgo” app? If you do, you'll need to allow Strava in it.

For more context, also other people have reported the same issue in this forum: https://communityhub.strava.com/search?q=duckduckgo

@Jana_S That was it!  Thank you so much.  I followed the link you posted and saw the other people with the same problem.  I initially tried to search for my problem but didn’t see any results which is why I started a new topic.  Maybe I didn’t choose the right search terms. Sorry. Anyway, it looks like Strava does a lot of tracking. DuckDuckGo blocked over 20,000 (!) tracking attempts in the past few days. It tries to track your habits in the background even when you’re not using it. Well, I manually disabled tracking protection for the Strava app so I’ll have to deal with the tracking if it means that the app will work normally again. The strange thing is that I’ve been using the DDG tracking protection for a few years and never had this problem with the Strava app until about a month and a half ago.

Thanks again! 🙂
