Since I complained about Strava’s poor GPS satellite connections and speed calculation to support about a month ago, I am noticing that the Strava distance recording has changed.  Apparently, Strava made some changes but as usual, are testing them on users in real time.

Segment and total distances that stayed approximately the same for years are now different.

For example, one hike that is a measured 7 miles long, Strava would usually show as between 7.12-7.18 miles.  Today, an activity on this trail came in at 7.38 miles!  That is an excessive error.  Sheese.

A week ago, a segment on another trail that Strava has always shown as 2.63-2.67 miles showed 2.56 miles.

Strava developers don’t seem to know how to work with GPS satellites and data!

If you want a clear example of this, note the distance shown at a rest break (take a screenshot), then watch Strava show distance gain as you sit at rest, not moving!  Support claims they can’t compensate for what they are calling “GPS Drift”even though I provided them an article on how to do so.

Back to the drawing board Strava!
